The first seems to be some option you have on. I'm not familiar with XP, so I can't help you there. The second is the annoying Windows Update reminder, a "feature" that comes with XP. Just go update and it'll leave you alone.

And people wonder why I use 98SE...

Oh, even better! Of course, by "better", I mean exponentially worse.

He might be referring to the large text... if so, press CTRL and move your scrollwheel to adjust the font size. Or use the View menu.

I can't see anything else that's screwed up in Screwedup.jpg :P

Apparently a resolution menu is foreign to him.

It looks fine in the SS... Both of them appear to be fine.

Take a word of advice, and get rid of Windows ME. If a Microsoft board member publicly apologizes for ME, you know it is screwed up.

XP is actually much better than 98SE... There are a couple nice features that I miss though.

No problem. Consider getting Ad-Aware or SpyBot to get rid of the MySearch toolbar and probably other crap. The only other place I've seen that toolbar is at a public resource center with computers, and people there click "yes" on anything that wants to install itself. So... :P
