Need help on choosing a car
« on: July 1, 2004 12:38 am CDT »
Well.. I totalled my truck about two months ago and I need a car to get to work (and for my girlfriend's sake and my sanity). I need to find a good cheap and sporty car.. something under the $5,000 catergory. Also, since I totaled my truck I can't afford the insurance on a really powerful car
So far I think this car might be my best bet..

Anyone heard any stories about Eclipses? Good or bad? Considering the car has a 4 cylinder I'm guessing the insurance probablly wouldn't be bad.

Any thoughts or comments are appreciated..  :)

Eclipse's are under the sports car catagory on insurance. Anything that looks sporty and can act sporty is going to cost a lot on insurance. A civic, with 106 hp, will still cost a 16 year old male about 1500-2000 a year in insurance, with a clear record.

Mitsubishi are generally expensive for people with unclean records because most of their cars are listed as sports cars. Something that looks sporty is pretty much not going to be cheap on insurance.

Ugh! I hate insurance companies.. That eclipse has a 1.8 liter engine.. with 86 HP. How could that possibly be a sports car?  :?

Concider the year: 1992
> 10 years = not gonna be a sprts car category
but it also means that thing is going to break down the moment to try to get it up your drive-way.

It doesn't matter what year the car is, If it is a coupe, then it's classed as a sports car.

i wouldn't buy a mitsu in the first place.  if you guys didn't hear, mitsu has a malarkeyload of defects with the cars they made which they never recalled the cars for.  those defects are now under investigation in causing more than like 700 deaths.

Yeah, every friend I know that has a mitsubishi (several 3000GTs, and a lot of eclipses) said that they wish they never would have bought them.  Not only do they break down consistantly, the replacement parts and labor costs have already added up close to how much they originally payed for the car.

Get an older civic or accord--iv'e seen some people keep those real nice, and they have decent power and aren't too small.  Don't get one of those tiny little things with like 70 HP..  you will regret it, trust me :c

Don't, however, do what Celtic does and drive without a license or insurance..  if you would like to have your license revoked for several years, go for it, but I wouldn't recommend doing something that stupid.

I know someone people with CRXs who are pretty pleased.  Iv'e also seen a lot of CRXs professionally tuned up, which were pretty damn fast (although they were later models).

As long as you don't plan on getting in any wrecks, it's not a bad choice.
