Coincidentally... (Prefabs for Money)
« on: July 29, 2004 07:52 pm CDT »
Do we have anybody that's good with Tribes prefabs?  I could use model replacements for the aging Uber, Centuria, and Gran'Kar.  If somebody would like to make a good (but definately complex) Minotaur's Lair, that'd be great as well.

A few new misc house models and some fancy bridges would also be nice...and if anybody thinks they can top our current Jaten have at it!

For those of you who wish to make prefabs worth your while, register with me at prefabdev@pcrpg.org with a subject of the title of your model.  You must include your contest ID number and attach your model and textures used...ZIPed or RARed--your choice.  If the attachment totals > 1MB, please make other arrangements by talking to me.  You should only submit the final version of a model.  Multiple submissions aren't allowed unless it cannot be avoided (accidents).

As a point of history:  Our last server clear was on September 27, 2004.  That is 4963 days ago (13.6 years) as of today.

If you're visiting after a long hiatus and have forgotten your password, try emailing me via the support form at http://www.pcrpg.org.

If your character is from after the 2004 clear but appears to have been deleted or reset, chances are it was caught in one of the inactive account purges over the years.  Backups were made before such events, so try the support form.

We can make various things things and submit them, just for fun right?

*considers how to put a *.dwg in worldcraft....

Do we have to turn it into a .dis or .dts? Or will you?

Edit:
Alc, any idea of how to turn milkshape files into .dts?
(Yea, I know he said prefabs, but the I started playing with this...pretty good for my 2nd thing. The first was a jagged dagger, I'll have to redo it later.)

New Textures accepted, or would you like the RpgClassic textures?
(to avoid massive loadups into RAM)

If classic is where it's at, there is a .vol of the ZED version of all the rpg textures in the TRPG FAQ in my signature.... downloads section.  Due to bandwidth consumption, only about 4 downloads a day are probably possible... *surses angelfire for a moment*

Peace... and if I find my models I'll submit them for the hell of it.
:-p

***edit***
Also, consider posting this on the IS forums?  I don't know if you want to be bombarded from there... but it may be worth a shot?

ALso, Would these models become express property of PCRPG only, or would we still be able to use/hand them out to people for general use?

I don't care if you give them out.  I just need good models that people will actually finish so I thought I'd have a neat contest for it.  Yeah, if somebody else would post about this thread it may arouse more interest than me alone @ IS.

Other models are interesting as well.  I could use a new collection of swords if they're cool (must be textured by you).  New textures are welcome, so long as you send them with the prefab.

Wasn't Vorter getting into making Prefabs? If you can contact him, he might be up to it. Also, ask him how his BBQ went, I never heard about what happened with that  :?

What did the alst two posts have to do with this thread?
:-p

There allegedly is a plugin that will save-as or convert them for you in the milkshape download.  I never actually did more than install milkshape (you know... I get side tracked far to easily) so I have never tried to do that myself.

On Topic:
Particle, I could post a thread in each of the RPGT1 forums there.
It will be your First post, and the additional info noted in just before the listed detials.

I'll just have to remember to do it when I get home today!

I'll post the info over there now.

I have a dts converter for .ms3d files. Just install it to your Milkshape folder. Enjoy

Thanks, I found one on garagegames.

I also learned I can export .dwg files into .3ds, So now I'm only limited on what I can texture decently.

Just one more thing, I've never done this before, so I need some information on how to register it with Tribes.
I've tried regestering it like a new dis (but  for a staticshape)
Just placing it in tribes rpg directory and making a weapon use its shape file.
Same thing in base directory on Base TRIBES
Trying to register and add it to the editor.
And well thats all I can remember, has anyone done this recently?

I would just like to note to be very careful and think out all the consequences of putting custom prefabs/modes into a server.

It has been tried before, and it almost lead to the servers demise. What usually happens is your dedicated base sticks with you but you start to not get any more new players. Over time as your dedicated players start quitting or playing less than they used to, you will see the general server population fall.

The advantage I see you having is the fact that alot of people are using pcrpg.org to download rpg base. So you can probably easily slip it in that download or make a seperate one that is close at hand.

Anyway, just giving a warning from experience.
