Well it doesn't really suck... except the first week I got it, the GPU fan quit working, and it only comes on every now and then with a horrible squeaking sound... and the TV-out is borked, it'll be black and white when I turn on my TV so I have to turn it on/off a few times before I get a color picture, oh and it has a nice habit of flickering the screen every time you do anything in the Display Properties control panel app, oh and also when you right-click the systray icon for the NVidia goatware that it installs.... and I hope you like video lag.... apart from all that it's a decent card

It was new, but I got it at a crappy computer store :)

Like you said yourself, though, it beats my old card! (An ATI Rage 128 32MB AGP with TV-in and TV-out, which was cool until I discovered OpenGL games simply didn't work with it.)

I also bought a geforceFX 5200 about a year ago.  I was incredibly dissapointed in it.  My Geforce3 got better framerates.  You should really listen to me, because the margin between a $150 card and a $190-200 card is so great, you should real consider going a little higher.

My geforce3 has also been having some fan problems.  The fan doesnt stop, but it sometimes makes a horrible noise (as if its scraping the heatsink or something.  I just flick the fan a few times while it is running, and its ok.

You'll cry if you ever try to play doom 3 or half-life 2 or UT2004 or Quake IV or FarCry or GL Quake.  That card sucks SO much arse.

Why'd you spend $50 on a video card?

<9000 marks for the 5200 ULTRA vs my plain jane 9700 which scores 16676 marks (15,152 marks stock) at 327x630 (my card can actually bench at about 390x640--MUCH higher than 17k)

As a point of history:  Our last server clear was on September 27, 2004.  That is 4963 days ago (13.6 years) as of today.

If you're visiting after a long hiatus and have forgotten your password, try emailing me via the support form at http://www.pcrpg.org.

If your character is from after the 2004 clear but appears to have been deleted or reset, chances are it was caught in one of the inactive account purges over the years.  Backups were made before such events, so try the support form.

I know one thing for sure.  My 9700 toasts the Ti4600 loner I was using.

I bought a R. 9600 for my mom, and it works perfectly..  she plays city of heros on it.  No lag at all.. and it was pretty cheap.

I was Lanning at a guy's house, and he sold me the card there, promising me a framerate higher than I got with my Geforce3.  I only had my laptop, so I wasnt able to benchmark it and see the results.

Doom III ran fine on my Geforce3 (before I was able to test it on my 9800 Pro's).

I dont understand where Ozzy gets his information.  A 9600 easily beats the ti4200, even when its OC'ed to a ti4600.

I get my information from my own computer.

Ti4200 also outperforms 4600.
