Always make sure power supply cord is disconnected from the unit!
AIR FLOW AIR FLOW AIR FLOW! Keep that baby cool! You have a good amount of cash for this setup. Get a decent MOBO- Really dont need anything tooo fancy there. I would spend most of my cash on a good Processor (AMD Athlon) A good Vid Card and Hard Drive and Memory! Try to save about 500-600 bux for these components! Remember that now days MOBOs come with built in sound and Ethernet High Speed setups so you can save your dollars not having to buy these cards. As cool as it seems to spend big bux on a SUPER-COOL CASE Don't waste your money! Get a decent case with plenty of fan slots. If you intended to hang your case on the wall as art then go with the cool case! Remember you don't have to go max memory right at the start. you can get a 256 memory stick and always have room for more down the road. If you have the cash left over you could get 2(sometimes you can find 2 sticks on sale so look around)! last but not least get a good power supply! Most of the time cases come with these but they are really crappy. If you do your homework you can find a decent case without the powersupply and then you can purchase your own! Oh Yeah I forgot. I purchased a CDR/CDRW/DVD drive for 50 bux on sale. This quite common now since the rage is DVD burners. So if you just looking for gaming and Music this will do you nicely. If you have the patient to wait i would do your shopping at Newegg.com. You can find so many things there at rock bottom prices! They are very good to work with! You could get everything you need plus some going with them for your computer! READ THE REVIEWS before you buy though. There is some really good input on items in there! Hope that helped

Don't just get 256, get atleast 512 if you're planning on gaming.

Yes, the jump from 256 to 512 will be more than worth it.

well i dunno if you guys have frys in canada but this week they have some great cpu and motherboard combo deals.

oh yeah always remember when your building your computer ground yourself.... try to be as naked as posible... as you can see your body conducts static electricity and if you aren't grounded then the static electricity in your body can short-circit some of the chips in your system. all have to do to get rid of the static is to touch anything metal for like 5 - 10 seconds and your safe, just do it every once in awhile just to be on the safe side.

Dell 19" Trinitron CTR Flat Screen

He got the monitor for 50 bucks from one of his clients!

forgot to add his mouse

Logitech MX 700 cordless optical mouse with docking station

Then we have all your other stuff. Cheap lan card and cd burner from walmart :) So that was like 200 wasted.

But his setup runs really nice. I play tribes on it whenever I can.
I cant really quote my system because my friend built it for me. I dont even know what kind of motherboard I have. I have  geforce4 and 512 ram tho :) But that's all I know. haha

Have fun building your computer. It's so fun to buy new parts and put them all together and see how much faster your games run...so great.

oh yeah forgot to say if you have the money to spend, go for the good parts. Dont get a motherboard processor combo. Get the best ones you can for you money. And you do have alot of money to spend. So I would get really good stuff becasue if you buy lowere end cheaper things then you will have to end up replacing them shortly down the road.
