That Was a Close One!
« on: September 2, 2004 04:50 pm CDT »
I recently bid on a new MP3 player to replace my decrepit old POS CD player.  Granted, it wasn't a bad unit, but it is broken beyond repair (old age).  I looked at a Rio300 back in the day when it was hot.  My CD player was still working back then, though.

I purched a unit labeled as "near-mint" by the seller off of eBay.  With a max bid of $55 already installed, I noticed in micro-print it said "Unit powers on, but if you press any buttons it shuts off."  Thinking other people would miss the text that I did, I was prepared for the worst.  $50 for a paper weight.

Turns out it went for only $20.50.  This is a near-mint unit, only it doesn't work right.  The Rio S50 retails for $100-200.

After looking for a cure, it turns out it takes a slip of paper/etc and about 10 minutes to fix.  Instant brand-new $150 MP3 player for $27.25 after shipping.

=D

Nice! :-D

I had a bad habit this past year of buying SNES stuff from e-bay... I purchased about 5 broken SNES and cleaned them.  2 of them worked.  The total Price I paid was about 20$ and a clean working SNES resells for at lease 25$.

I had an old rio my bro got from a friend at school... didn't have the computer hookup though so I was stuck with 2 really crappy songs, so I tossed it away!

Here's one.  I was checking out ATI control center which was just released today.  While moving around in it, I noticed my MSI 9800Pro was actually a 9800XT!  Joy!

It was from 1998/99 and it only held about 50 MB at the time I think.  I did a search for components for it and found none... that's when I decided to junk it.

I looked though, just to be sure. :-)

The old ones sucked.  They had severe copyright management, were clunky, and used propriatary EVERYthing.  Cables for the S50 are available for like $3.  The memory expansion is a simple MMC/SD slot, which takes upto a gigabyte.  Supposed to have USB2.0 connection, though I've seen something say otherwise.

Heh.  It's a high-quality unit!

You can take your iPod and shove it up your ass--which is where they raped you when you bought it.  Those things are overly priced.
