What do you look for in a RPG?
« on: September 19, 2004 01:10 pm CDT »
What do you look for in a RPG? Is it the action packed adventure? The daring quests? The 1337 melee? The fishing in a lake? Or the large chat room?

Seriously.. What in a RPG really turns you on. Except the stunning graphics, because that is covered

Action packed adventure, 1337 melee, stealth, stealing, large chatroom, and my own house.

Yea, pretty much all of it. I like going on long, but creative quests. Not just go here, kill this, collect this, use it to do this-type quests. I'd want something where you have to solve a puzzle, where you have to think.

And big epic battles are fun, too.

Lots of adventure, and the ability to just freely wander the world performing side quests with little or nothing to do with the story.

And lots of room to upgrade a character with tons of skill options so that each character can be totally different than the other characters.

Player conflict. Otherwise it just gets boring. If there is no PVP and/or stealing I usually don't bother.

As a point of history:  Our last server clear was on September 27, 2004.  That is 4963 days ago (13.6 years) as of today.

If you're visiting after a long hiatus and have forgotten your password, try emailing me via the support form at http://www.pcrpg.org.

If your character is from after the 2004 clear but appears to have been deleted or reset, chances are it was caught in one of the inactive account purges over the years.  Backups were made before such events, so try the support form.

I think one of the most critical parts of an addictive rpg is possessions. (i.e. a house, furniture, etc)

Also its fun to be able to do things when others arent around, i.e. gambling

Another key element of successful rpg's is dependance on people and not npcs, typically npcs are used for basic missions to make pocket change money and nothing else.

The power to become an all powerful god in the matter of days is always a good turn on.

(You know, so the newbs look up to you in aww.)

I'd like to see some good melee action in a game. (Slashing the same slash repeatedly gets boring.)

How about something new? I'm pretty sure that when people buy RPG's its because they havent played it before.... and after all... all rpg's are different. Posting about what people like just means it'll be the same. Make new stuff. Think up original ideas.... please.

I really wanted to try such MMORPG games like Star Wars Galaxies and City of Heroes, but I can't stand paying monthly for something I won't be able to play constantly.

I get enough of that with my insurance bills which are horribly high, and I never use, anyway.
