Questing with Hobbes
« on: October 11, 2004 11:39 pm CDT »
Hobbes has come up with alot of really fun and creative quests, so I just thought I'd share my favorites with those who may not have seen them.

Keldrin Jump Quest
In this, players hop from stool to stool up the sides of the building. The first to the top wins a chest of prizes. Of course, boots are not allowed. Don't be deceived by the simplicity of the quest. It took me dozens of tries and I was one of the first to complete it.

The second quest is similar to the first in that you have to jump from stool to stool to reach the top. However, the loss is much greater if even a single mistake is made.

And finally, we have Hobbes' most recent creation, the Jaten Leap Quest. In this, you stand on a platform and #tell Hobbes three numbers up to 300. He uses those three numbers to launch you through the air. The object is to land in Jaten, from Keldrin.

Other quests, which I don't have ss for include a Survival Quest where players are teleported to a Travelor's Den type arena with arrow shooting, spell casting enemies on the top. Simply survive the longest to win.
We also have a BoGs quest similar to the Jump quests and a Pack Hunt quest in a mine above Keldrin where exp packs are cleverly hidden within.

I hope we continue to see creative quests like these. It's to a point now where people don't play just for the rewards (the rewards are usually fairly small amounts of exp, luck, and sp) but they play because the quests are actually really fun to do.

Glad people had fun. They get more complicated as I go. Mostly just stuff to make it more accessible, like teleport bots and other scripting stuff.

  After tonight Hollywood I don't think many people will want to trust your quest. I think your quest are very creative though. Took them a while to figure out what the password was. Thanks for the quest, anytime you need help with one let me know. I will be more than happy to help.

They needed that quest last night.

Not only do I reward EXP, SP, and LCK... I now also deal out life lessons!

Ok, here is the story.

I was going to do a quest and needed some ideas and the question came up, what don't most people playing here have? I get the stupid answers like 10k more exp, Keldrin Armor, Badges etc. Then some new player answers simply: manners. Thus the idea was born.

I next put a tp bot in keldrin town that would teleport players from anywhere when they #say tp. I proceeded to put a barstool on the fountain in town across from the teleport bot and slapped an onconsider command on it that jailed anyone using their pack key on it for 99999 or so seconds.

I sent an anonymous message that there was a magic stool in town that you could get to by saying tp. Unlock the magic by considering it. I never said what it did, but of course shortly after the entire server was in Ethren jail cell number 2 (I think HUBBA got pics).

I went outside the cell to the much expected cursing and yelling, most notably from Type-S who no longer gets to participate in my quests because of his words. The rare few that did ask to get out were rude about it and so I completed the riddle by spawning the Saviour outside their cell and talking through him.

The trick to getting out was simply saying 'save me please', but I accepted just the use of the word 'please' via an onhear command on Saviour. Some got it right away, while others complained and whined and yelled for the better part of an hour. HUBBA was in charge there when I left, but I wouldn't be surprised if they were still there.

THE ANSWER WAS PLEASE. JUST PLEASE. ARE YOU RAISED BY ANIMALS?

Here are co-ordinates that will lauch a person from the keldrin bridge to Ethren.  0 0 175  (bout 5 second delay) 20 -250 0  (bout 5 second delay)  0 0 -175.  at the end of that as the player is descending towards Ethren, some 0 0 20's should be added to slow velocity for a safe landing. This was one of the plans that I had for my "whirlwind teleport" that I was working on, but decided I didn't have enough time to finish.  Do with it whatever you like....maybe it will spawn some ideas.

Thanks.  This would be cool if there was an npc you could talk to and he would initiate the whirlwind.  You could code it like the gambling thing where sometimes it would throw you off the map or bash you against a mountain, or sometimes actually deliver you to you destination.  You could have evil npc's that only screw you over.  I would be willing to work on this idea more if others are interested and it "will" be implemented.  I wouldn't wanna waste my time otherwise.

Another idea that i had was, what makes tribes dull?  There's not enough movement by npc's.  Even in the old nes games the npc's moved.  Seems like we could do something about this.  I suggest that someone host some npc's that could actually move about.  It would require a trustworthy person to host several tribes from one computer (double, triple, quad logging)  There are ups and downs to this, especially since those slots would be taken and then more clients couldn't connect.

Player slots are not the problem. The NPCs used to move. THe problem with having bots as NPCs is the enormous lag they generate.

Oh, and about the whirlwind teleport... Random tornados spawning on the map would be a better idea.
