Hey Guys, Don't Like The Server Crashing?
« on: November 4, 2004 04:39 pm CST »
IP is 68.97.248.123.

He's crashing the server by rapidly joining it with the Sinister and Gknight accounts.

As a point of history:  Our last server clear was on September 27, 2004.  That is 4963 days ago (13.6 years) as of today.

If you're visiting after a long hiatus and have forgotten your password, try emailing me via the support form at http://www.pcrpg.org.

If your character is from after the 2004 clear but appears to have been deleted or reset, chances are it was caught in one of the inactive account purges over the years.  Backups were made before such events, so try the support form.

I have good reason to believe it's SINISTER (the real one), duping coins. I don't have any hard proof other than my word, but just a heads up:

I saw Gnight crashing the server by joining rapidly earlier, and SINISTER getting on occasionally. I assume SINISTER is double logging as, and duping coins using the join trick to crash the server.

After he rapidly joined with Gnight, he would get on SINISTER again and repeat the process. However, one time the name SINISTER was the one joining, rather than the normal Gnight. I think he probably forgot to change his name back after he had double logged. Obviously this is just my word, and I don't believe any of you to take it seriously, but it's all I can give you for now.

Particle: Couldn't you code in something that automatically locks down the server (with a password) for a certain amount of time, after it detects someone joing x number of times in x seconds, with the same IP? I've seen this done on TAC.

Also, he is probably using : http://www.linneberg.com/dupecoins.html

He knows how to do it, so what makes you think he isn't.  I'm sure he has some lowbie character packed to the gills with coins.

Particle, just say teh word and I can make you an auto-ban server side script that'll ban for connecting like he did.  Solves lots of problems, expecially bad ones.

Just make it and send it to him so he can implement it. We need to make this last server clear worth while for those that still play. :D

to make the server clear worthwhile, Jonahs IP needs to be banned.

As long as the server is still vulnerable to crashes like this, and coins will always, always be duped. I haven't duped any coins nor recieved any illegitimate coins. My char now only has 1.7 mil on it.

People will learn to stop duping coins very quickly, trust me.  There will be NO warning outside of this message.  If you are caught duping coins, bad things will happen.
