Halo 2 makes 75 million in its first night
« on: November 9, 2004 06:50 am CST »
Halo 2 makes 75 million in its first night. Topic says it all.. The game cost 30 million to make, but in the first night it makes 75 million.

That is one hell of a profit. One HELL of a profit.

I bet the developers are getting one nice christmas bonus.

How on earth can they spend $30m to make a GAME?  That's a movie's budget.  High-level games typically run only $1-5m.

As a point of history:  Our last server clear was on September 27, 2004.  That is 4963 days ago (13.6 years) as of today.

If you're visiting after a long hiatus and have forgotten your password, try emailing me via the support form at http://www.pcrpg.org.

If your character is from after the 2004 clear but appears to have been deleted or reset, chances are it was caught in one of the inactive account purges over the years.  Backups were made before such events, so try the support form.

I'm not much of a console gamer, but that is insane. Not for how much they spent on it, but for how much they made within their first 4-6 hours of selling it.

That is only the people who have no life and will wait in line several hours to play it.

After christmas, this thing is going to have made close to if not over 300 mill.

That is just amazing.

I wonder how much HalfLife 2 cost to make if Halo 2 cost 30 million.

I heard it was over 100 million first night. I also heard people waited 10 in the morning to be first in line.

Played Halo 2 over at my girlfriends house, outstanding game.  There are much more cinematics, so it has a very deep story as far as I can see.  But, if you didnt like the original Halo (wtf nesso?) you wont like Halo 2.

Im not trying to take anything away from Bungee, or the Halo series, but it really has become the whore of the video game world.  Everyone has had a turn.

May I point out one of the latest Penny-Arcade comics:
http://www.penny-arcade.com/view.php3?d ... 1-08&res=l

These guys really do know what they are talking about, and it shows with their humor.  What game besides Halo 2 excites everyone from the jocks to the girlfriends and everyone in between?  I doubt you could really name one.  Thus, my point is this: The game is good, a little bit overrated, and entirely un game-like in its apeal to such a variety.

Just another reason Tribes rules everything.  (Oh, and Vengeance is better than Halo or Halo 2 any day of the week.)

The best part of Halo 1 was the multiplayer.  Me and my friends always get together with a bunch of xbox's and tv's and kill eachother.  I havent gotten a chance to play halo 2 yet though im goin over my buddies to try it today on xbox live which i heard is great.

Hmm.. what happened to the days of LANs? I can remember the good 'ol tiimes of playing Quake II with friends.

Something isn't too appealing about being crowded around on a sofa squinting at your "corner" of the TV. Yes, true, you can bring your own TV and link 'em all up, but come on!

I guess I'm just jealous because it’s not the Tribes series getting that hype, glory and wide-recognition. But Tribes knocks them off in one area. The community.

They even got music from Incubus, Breaking Benjamin etc. for their game.

Ah hell, damnit. Xbox will never find a spot in my home. :-P (maybe)

Tribes > Halo + Halo2 put together. Amen.
Who’s with me? Don’t tell me I’m standing a lone on this one!

I say "Hell yes," to that statement. I have T:V lan parties all the time. Screw halo. Ill play it once, beat it, and never play it again. Im putting my money into WoW and Halflife 2.
