The simple fact is that guns can succesffully pull off a premeditated action, you arent going to be able to pull it out, dive into the bushes and fire off 30 successive rounds that hit your target, in the time it takes them to pull the trigger of a gun already pointed at you. So carrying a gun on hand can only prove defensive in a few select situation.

A gun nut (I use that term fairly loosely, I consider myself in advocation of the right to bear firearms to most extents) I once knew told me that in Sweden (or some other, similar European country) there are rarely, if any, robberies in gas stations, banks, and other assorted establishments.

Why?  Because everyone has a gun.  Well, not everyone, but its easy enough to get one and carry it in public such that there is too high a chance that someone might blast a criminal if he were to attempt to rob a store.

wow, 4 police officers on each floor... my whole school has one officer and he doesn't even show up every day... It's hard to believe some places can be that violent...
