Yeah it made people quit, like myself, because the money issue obviously hasn't been cleared up. Until then, I don't think I, along with others will be coming back anytime shortly.

I just have to clear this up...  The coin method used to dupe coins has no fix.  It will work with any item (at least that you can put in a pack), and there is no code to stop it.  The whole basis for the bug is that the guilty parties crash the server so that it does not save the transaction except on the person who received the coins.  Hence, it skips the save code on everyone except the one person to #savecharacter.  Now, if it skips the save code, then it skips all other code that normally executes as the server runs... AKA, there is not a simple "fix" to this problem.

Options to "fix" the problem include:
(1) Automatic save for a character whenever they #createpack or die to ensure that the items are truly lost from their posession.
(2) Get rid of dust

I am against option #1 because if someone dies and the server happens to crash, they lose everything and never have a chance to regain their items...  It would just lead to a lot of discouraged n00bs and complaints in general.

Option #2 on the other hand has been discused and supported by most of the players...  I've seen the code, it would merely be adding // or /*  */ to about 30 lines of code in a few different files.  (Namely, remove characters associated from the map file, remove the items completely.)  One alternate method to #2 which may be a good idea is to make dust an admin reward, and put it straight into bank accounts instead of picking it up in packs.  This way, you only run the risk of being mugged on your way to the house.

But what do I know?  I only did all of this already with the mod I *thought* was going to be post-clear on the server...

I support the removing of dust.

(And the clearing of Sinister and FatPix since they used duped money.)

Gladio, I do not agree with this post. There is only one crash method that pcrpg is vulnerable to, and it can be (and has been in many servers) fixed.

Yes, it may be able to be fixed, but why bother?  Remove dust and nobody has any reasons to crash the server...

Besides, I wouldn't put it past myself or Jonah with enough time on our hands to get bored and try to find other ways to crash it.  Besides, I'm sure you or SINISTER or any number of people on the server are creative enough and good enough at code that we could find other vulnerabilities.  The fact remains that no server is ever completely immune to bugs with code (just because of the nature of Tribes++) and the only feasible method of ensuring that nobody care to bother is to remove the reward they are looking for.

"The end justifies the means." but what happens when there is no end, no reward to achieve?  Wouldn't that by nature handle the means?  Granted that this logic does not apply to assholes because their end is pissing people off, and you can't stop that...

Or slap on a RL 100+ requirement for dust, so Gods (who have earned the right) could dust up to LVL 500 or so.

I am for option 1, first off, the odds of loosing a pack just as the server crashes is pretty unlikely. Second off, loosing pack is not a very big deal after the 3rd remort because by then most players have a reasonable ammount of money stored. In the two and a half months I've played this mod, I've only lost my pack from server crashing only once... Plus with dupe coins rbeing impossible crashes would be less often therefore the odds of loosing a pack due to crashing is further reduced.
I'm also for option 2 because by the time gods are remort 100 they will have so much hp they can tank centurians... by the time centurians aren't high enough level to give capped exp, the god will be so high level that any exp gained from dust means practically nothing compared with the requirements for leveling...

Unfortunately, it's already too late for option 1.

Unless Particle can write something that goes through every character and checks their money and lists who has over 30 mil or so. Because who knows how many chars various people (FatPix and Sinister) have stashed duped money on.

Hey Frantic, get it right....Sinister is not maxed...Sinbot is and he's only rl 2.  I got him to 174 by using coins, but that doesn't mean that "I" actually did anything wrong.  I feel that the help that I can provide at level 174 is better than the help i can provide at level 100 or 140.  I dont plan on remorting sinbot any more, so lets drop the issue.  If you notice, i haven't dusted sinister once.  I have been remorting him legitimately.  Thanks.

Oh, I'm sorry, are you two not the same person? Is your forum name (who I was talking to, retard) not Sinister?

Quote from: "Sinister"

No, you got him to 174 by using dust which you bought with coins. (Which you obviously duped. And this is the 100th time I've repeated myself)

Quote from: "Sinister"
but that doesn't mean that "I" actually did anything wrong.

You used duped money, yet you didn't do anything wrong?

Umm, okay. And that justifies using duped coins? That you "feel" you can help better?

Well I feel that I can PK people better at LVL 174, but do you see me using duped coins to get there?

I'm sure Myst feels that she can mine better at 174, but do you see her using duped coins?

I've already repeated myself so many times for you, Sinister.

Good for you, Sinister. Unforunately, I'm talking about Sinbot who you did dust with.

Lol, @ repeating yourself....does this validate your existence.

I'm glad you have enough time in your busy schedule to worry about coins on a game that really doesn't matter...

We see where your priorities are.
