Anybody else tired of the eBay shipping bullmalarkey?
« on: January 1, 2005 03:43 pm CST »
When the shipping stuff first started, it was just padded shipping on a normal item.  I mean really, it doesn't cost $15 to ship a 25-pack of CD media via bulk class mail.  That was pretty common.

Now, it's worse.  All over, people are setting up $1 auctions with shipping to obviously cover the rest.  There's no reason shipping a motherboard would mean $90 of handling.  I haven't be bitten by it yet since I always watch out, but it's sickening.  It isn't even a picture of an item scam anymore.

It's rampant.  Here's a few horrible examples:

Yeah, I know exactly what you mean..  it seems like most of the time the shipping is nearly double the cost of the stuff I'm buying..

I usually go check to see how much it will cost to ship the stuff. Then if the price of shipping  is raised up above a substantual amount than that, I don't even bother. If they are that dumb in trying to scam someone what does it say for their product?

This is exteremely gay. This guy is downloading fansubber's work, burning it to a cd, stamping the cd, and making a case for it and ripping people off. You can download bleach for free(because it is unlicensed) and hes making money off it. And he also claims that HE did the work and HIS is the best, when none of it is HIS, the subbing groups Lunar(6-10) and Anime-Keep(1-5) did all of it.

And someone acutally bought it!

The guy wrote his description terribly.

The better quality ones are done by ANBU and AKeep. ANBU broke the joint so AKeep couldnt really continute. So youd have to go with one of the lesser translations(Like Lunar).

(Note:AKeep translates shinigami as Soul Reaper,
Lunar translates shinigami as Death God.)

I sent a question to one of those guys and here's his response!!!  lol

Dear rmeint,

You asked:
"You kow this excessive shipping is going to sour the whole Ebay thing... Get real and be an HONEST seller please.... I will never even consider buying from you with these tactics.."

His reply:

I suppsose you are trying to buy an item like this for .99 + .99 s/h., but this is impossible because maybe you are looking for stolen items, and I don't sell that. First check my feedbacks and you can see how HONEST I am. Thanks and this is my final answer.

How can you justify yourself as an "honest" seller when you exploit the eBay search system to make this item appear cheaper than it really is?  Items aren't sorted by "total" price that includes item + shipping...items are sorted purely by item price.  Shipping and handling isn't supposed to be "shipping, handling, and inflating to cover cost of advertising at an unbelievable price".

Somebody needs to post that one.

Ebay needs to have a admin searching for malarkey like that, and the first time serve them a warning, then the second disable their account.

I thought there was allready an e-bay policy agaist this... but I may be wrong.  I haven't read the policy since I signed up years a go.

I agree that it will kill the whole e-bay thing.  But a music cd for 5$, pay 15$ shipping?  Bullmalarkey.
