We're moving to a new web host
« on: January 10, 2005 06:59 pm CST »
I'm adding a new host I think.  Gladio hooked me up with the contact for the guy.  The good news is we'll have 100GB/mo of transfer if we need it, so I'll be hosting the Tribes 1 download as well as the TRPG files.  Uberclockers.com will be based on it while pcrpg.org will remain at its current host (35GB/mo).

I think this might get us a slightly higher newbie rate for those of you who are interested in that sort of thing.

As a point of history:  Our last server clear was on September 27, 2004.  That is 4963 days ago (13.6 years) as of today.

If you're visiting after a long hiatus and have forgotten your password, try emailing me via the support form at http://www.pcrpg.org.

If your character is from after the 2004 clear but appears to have been deleted or reset, chances are it was caught in one of the inactive account purges over the years.  Backups were made before such events, so try the support form.

*wink wink nudge nudge*

How about that code now?
exploit patches, password protection, admin verification, etc.  I won't ask for the map stuff, I'll try to plagarize it on my own time.

To be honest, it's only a hair cheaper than I could have gotten it at punkserver.us (current host--excellent speed 24/7).  However, I will help you to patch linebreaks, admin verification, and kill a fast-swing exploit.

I would, however, appreciate it if you don't just copy my server in terms of gameplay content.

Heh, I just asked for Centuria and Gran'Kar...  You forget that this is the continuation of the mod that Lucid, Solaris, GE, LostRelic, Aphex, and every god-level remort and every player that came by wanted you to replace your current mod with when you cleared the server...  Since Lucid tells me you "forgot" about it, I've had time to do it right.  Limited building of personal houses from TvT, blended spells projectile and LOS between TvT and RPG.  The list goes on including many new classes and class specific skills.  It sure was a unsavory woman to figure out your EXP algorithm from scratch, but that was only 10 min of actual work.  For that reason I expect the rest of the ideas I wanted from your server to fall in place relatively easily.

Honestly...  If you bothered to stop in more than the one time you did when PEACH crashed my server, you would know gameplay will not be like your server (which isn't really that much different from default RPG), it will be a blend of TvT and RPG styles which may just breathe fresh life into a mod which your first god-level remort of the post-clear has called a bore.

I'm just letting you know that plenty of people on these forums have been by my server and can attest to some of the changes (by no means all as I have been extremely busy in the last week).  I'm also letting you know that I would appreciate any help you would give me in the way of content because I do enjoy your server.  Those 2 zones are just to fill in the obvious places I have not had the chance to work on, and I wouldn't be asking for them unless I thought they were worthwhile to what I want to build.  You told me yourself that PCRPG may be down within 6 months or a year...  Would it really hurt to go partially open source (where I am the only person it is open to...)?

If you are wondering, I am scouring source from most major mods: UltraVX, PaintBall, Annihilation (from Plasmatic, not yet released), Nappy, Base, etc.  All of these are being blended to create special effects to items and mainly spells (think of fire and ice bows and meteor showers).  All of this will be server side, nothing to DL.

Again, I'm not here to demand or beg or anything...  I'm just saying that I like the ideas you had for those zones (notice I'm not asking for Kenkail's) and would enjoy being able to add them to what I have.

If you could send me the exploit fixes in an archive to GladioStricto@gmail.com I would greatly appreciate it.

*shameless plug* If you have ideas for items you want set up for house wars (easels, flags, chairs, etc. post something here)

After running PCRPG for so long, I'm not to happy to just change it over when I haven't done jack to the code.  It'd take away all the personality of running the server in the first place.  When (eventually--in the distant future) I do change over to the PCRPG UT mod, I will have no problem sharing my PCRPG code for all its good and bad to help out, but until then it's my project and I'm not too apt to see it go to the wayside because I gave it all over to a mod which can boast PCRPG+

I hope you can understand where I'm coming from.

I'm not asking you to run the server for me (I can hook myself up with the same guy uberclockers is at now ) and yes, I do see your point...  I never planned on PCRPG+, it would obviously be GSCPRG</sarcasm>  But as you wish...

I didn't say anything to suggest you wanted me to run it for you.

You could have saved yourself some trouble on the EXP system if you had downloaded the Deus update.  I think most if not all of the formulas are in it.

All I'm saying if you want complete honest feelings is I feel like I'm being totally ripped off.  You're copying my mod into another (plus other mods into it too, granted).  I have no problem sharing with you security code that helps keep buggers from being as annoying, but game content being copied when I'm still making full use of it and with as much time as I've put into it (while there's technically little I can do) just irks me.

I think everybody else that's ever asked me to share the PCRPG code to work from or host a PCRPG server can attest to that.  My usual answer is along the lines of "I'm flattered that you'd want to run this mod, but I'm afraid I don't currently share the PCRPG code."

I'm not trying to be an asshole, but I am trying to protect my interests.  Hopefully you can understand where I am actually coming from and not assume I'm just being difficult.  By no means do I want to discontinue our discussions or collaborations.

Hey Particle, Gladio is my whore (he's looking over my shoulder right now). He doesn't plan on "plagiarizing" your work, simply on observing the methods and coding used, which is, again, not copying your work.

Your work is not being ripped off as you say, and you will be credited with whatever coding that is remotely similar to yours that he uses. (Ask Razore)

By the way, changed my mind, your hosting is free.

P.S. I love you. :P

PCRPG isn't really that different with the two zones and EXP multiplier aside.

You act like mapping out Gran'kar and Centuria is really that hard.. it's actually very simple.

I remember when me and Icer hosted a server we had like three new towns, and around nine new dungeons (Not to mention ALOT of new weapons). The players really liked it alot, but after a while I got quite tired of dealing with the server drama, people sending me emails and harassing me on AIM "PLEASE GET ON THE SERVER I NEED YOU TOO __________". Or people crashing the server. I just didn't have the perseverance Particle has.  :P

If you want to check out some of the zones we made hit me up on AIM: XxLucidRainxX

Thanks Newbie and Aphex, I had planned on that all along.  I've never really tried out the map editor before, but I'm getting the hang of it now.  Mostly, I would run around as admin in-game and #spawndis that that i could know it was exactly perfect, then add it by hand to the map file (wasn't as bad as it sounds, honestly).  Newbie I just sent you a message on AIM, so that should be cool to check out some of what you have.  So far I have 4 new dungeons (3 or more planned additional), 3 new portected areas (maybe one more additional), and I'm debating on whether or not I should keep/populate my upperworld.  Anyone who has seen what I've done up there appreciates the powers of sin and cos. :D

Most of my work lies in security, not game content.  However, the random name thing is pretty nice.  I'm not trying to be a Nazi about it--sorry if it is coming across that way.

And thank you Avi--very nice web host.

In the long run, Particle has always been bias to not adding in new code.  Thats coming from personal experience as I have told him about 3 times how to cure the fast swing glitch completely, and it is yet to be fixed, and it is a 20 second code fix, just have to re-upload the files.

And why are you scouring mods for things?  If you can't write it in the first place, or you can't come up with the idea, you shouldn't be ripping things from other mods, expecially not without credit to the mod you are taking the ideas and/or code from.

Nothing in Tribes is hard.  Coding, mapping, or otherwise.  Coding just takes practice, mapping just takes patience, and the otherwise takes otherwise.  And by coding practice, I don't mean copy and paste someone else's work and then edit through it, I mean actually write out everything yourself, and find ways to improve the time use by it, and slowly learn the shortcuts to everything for yourself.

Such a cruel contradiction
