Well "they" can rock it then.

I don't swing that way. :P

I prefer the all-black-clothing-going-to-blow-up-the-school style.

I do not agree.  Playing basketball in these shoes would suck.  My dad said that they cost 5$ when he was a teenager and everyone who wore them did so because they cost next to nothing and could be modified fo different purpose.  Example; he cut the backs off and used them as slip on shoes inside the house.

I wear the all stars.  They used to be wider and more comfortable, but they are finally taking their toll on me.  The last few pair I have had were lumpy inside, narrow, and skewed to strange angles that made my feet feel twisted.  They also make them in China now.  Arg.

Until I find something as uncusioned and wide as these, however, I will will be wearing the same old flat black converse low top.

I was watching a PBS special about trends, and what I found out was interesting:

MTV (and other corporations similar to that) send out trend hunters and find teens who are trend setters in the like.  (Such as those who wore Converse before Nike bought them out).  Then, the corporations market the product (such as the shoes) in thousands of ways (anybody notice Hillary Duff <ugh> wearing pink converse on the cover of a movie?).   Later, the trend is squashed and the cycle is repeated.

God that's gay how Converse sold out to nike..

I remember when the "gangsters" used to make fun of kids who wore converse.. they used to humiliate them for wearing them. Then once Nike took over all of sudden they were the new cool thing.
