ipod shuffle
« on: February 23, 2005 10:50 am CST »
Im thinking about buying one. Anyone have an experience with them. I know they are fairly new. Just thought i would ask. And also would it just be a better idea to spend the extra hundred for an ipod mini.

and if you have any other experience with mp3 players tell me what you like and where the good deals are. I cant buy anything off line....for lack of credit card and bank account. So it would have to be something you would purchase in a store.

http://www.apple.com/ipodshuffle/

I like the randomness of the shuffle. Since i always have my winamp on shuffle anyways. And it's only 99 dollars. It holds a good amount of songs I guess. You really dont need gigs of music when your running around town or doing whatever.

Hmm.. I don't like the idea of not being able to choose what song you're listening to. I know you can change the song, but who wants to keep hitting next until you get what you want?

Currently I use a 20 gig iPod, it's great.. never had any problems. If you want something smaller go with another non apple 1 gig mp3 player. I'm sure there are others with a random option, and if you decide you want to actually choose a song, you will be covered.

Yes, definately don't buy an apple mp3 device.  My ipod just died, which I got for christmas (not last christmas, but the one before that).  The battery on it shows empty no matter how long I charge it, and it lasts for like 30 minutes before it goes out again.

I'd suggest a rio..  they have always had decent MP3 players.  Also, Sony has a nice one they released just after the ipod showed it's sexy but evil face.

Iv'e got a 40 gig and I'm not compensating for anything ;)

I'd suggest one of the RIO flash players if you are going to be doing something active while listening to it.  They range from 128 to 256 (128 holds 4 hours of music) and they don't skip since they have no moving parts.

RIO makes harddrive MP3 players like apple, from 1.5gig to 20gig.  The 1.5gig player is only $30 less than the 128meg flash one, but you have to be a bit more careful with it.  20 hour battery life, which is a hell of alot better than the iPod.

You can't beat Apple's customer service, though. I still say if you're looking for something in the 20gig area get an iPod. My friend got water on his iPod and it broke. He filled out their online form, they mailed him an empty box in less than 24 hours, mailed it to them and he had a new one in less than 3 days.

Well, unless you plan on buying a new one every year and a half, I think it's a bad idea.  They may have good customer service, but you'll pay more than it's worth in the long run.  Here is why I think it's a bad idea:

Battery life of less than 10 hours
malarkeyty sound (yes, malarkeyty sound..  I have $120 headphones and no matter what setting I had it on, it always sounded strung out)
Costs too much

I own one, and I still don't like it.  It crashes on me all the time now, and the way you update your songs is a pain to me.  If you want to delete songs, you have to delete them off the playlist on your computer, and then re-update the whole thing.

All in all, it looks sexy, but is a poor lay.

Iv'e got a 40 gig and I'm not compensating for anything :) 40 gigs is bigger than my actual hard drive. 0_o Bastard.

Anyways, i'm using a 256, because.. I don't need tons of songs, and it was insanely cheap. The battery lasts 12 hours, and it recharges through the USB. You can record, slow down, speed up sound--shuffle, etc etc etc

I could get a few second opinions for you :P

40 gig is actually bigger than my harddrive too.. lol.  I'm still using a piece of junk computer from like 99'.  It runs tribes great..  just doesn't run a single game made after tribes =/

Iv'e got just under half of my 40 gigs filled on my ipod..  I don't ever forsee myself filling it all the way up (especially since it doesn't WORK).

3 x 250GB
5 x 120GB
2 x 40GB
1 x 60GB
