I'm not sure the afformentioned second opinion holders would be comfortable sharing that opinion with people :P  (as if you seriously really wanted to know.. lol.)

Well I was messing around. Although... the idea of you going to such lengths just to prove someone from the net wrong.. is rather funny.

I'm sure this says something about you.

I could on the other hand call your bluff. ;)

The battery on my ipod lasts 30 minutes now.  I'm super pissed.

I used it all the time, only plugged it in when needed (not all the time).  Over time, it just wore out.

What I also dont like is how fragile the devices are.  Believe me, I've already broken other two of them (i was able to get replacements by... social engineering) from small accidents.

Also, not only do you have to be careful of breaking it while dropping, you have to carry it like an egg if you dont want it to scratch.  This means buying an overpriced iskin!

I dont know about the ipod shuffle as a good buying choice.  Best idea would be to wait 5 more months and see how many customers report that their's is broken.  As for me, never am I buying another apple MP3 player.

*edit*
Players like these: http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/ ... 87-9186264 I really like.  I know, you can probably find one cheaper, but thats just an example.  Not only is it an MP3 player, its also a great thumbdrive.

At first I turned my nose up at thumbdrives.  Then I got one, and realized how useful they really are!  I use mine every day, and actually carry it on a lanyard around my neck (under my shirt of course, I'm not that proud of it...)

adam, i have proof. haha

darwin.

yeah thumbdrives are really handy. that mp3 players looks cool. not too much info on it though. I just know that im sick of burning cds to listen to. and you can only fit up to 20 songs on a cd depending on length. even though my cd player is a tank and can handle any sort of abuse...im looking for something bigger. i like to always have music with me and it wuold be nice to never have to change out cds or spend money on blank cds.

This place offers the closest thing ive seen to apple but without most of the crap ipod users experience.

http://creative.com/products/welcome.asp?category=213

It is about the same size physically and through the different models holds about the ammount of songs. I think it looks pretty neat too. Also some of its little extra items get included with it (All ipods extras come seperate for unreasonable prices).

Yes, definately don't buy an apple mp3 device.  My ipod just died, which I got for christmas (not last christmas, but the one before that).  The battery on it shows empty no matter how long I charge it, and it lasts for like 30 minutes before it goes out again.

Dude... all rechargable batteries die after steady use.

You just go down to the apple store, or e-bay, and get a new battery or get a new battery installed.

It's certainly cheaper in terms of batteries used and recharged to use the iPod over any other player.

As far as iPod Shuffle; it is not permanenetly random.  It has a continuaous play as well as shuffle feature.  You can switch to continuous play and press next to stay with in a certain body of music, from what I understand.

You should check out the apple website:
http://www.apple.com/itunes/

I would get the iPod mini or shuffle myself, except that I don't listen to portable type music anyway.

You seem to be quite in to photo taking/storing.  For 350$ you could get an iPod Photo which has a huge capacity for strorage, color screen, etc... and can be hooked up to a TV.  Kinda cool, and about 200$ less than when it first came out.

Anyway... the shuffle is not a bad deal if;
you only use 512 MB of songs,
want a player smaller than any other,
don't want to pay a malarkeyload.

yeah the only reason i would buy a shuffle is because it's only 99 dollars. I mean i might just spend the extra hundred and get a mini. I would like to have the option of seeing what songs im playing. but if the batterie life is really as horrible as everyone says it is then i dont know what wuold be a better deal in the long run.

and ive looked into the photo thing but it seems way too overpriced and im not sure how often i would use it. can you upload your photo directly from your camera? that would be very useful considering im cheap and having bought another memory card so i can only hold about 40 pictures at a time. Which isnt a lot of you're me.

Preventing the Memory Effect - Keep your battery healthy by fully charging and then fully discharging it at least once every two to three weeks. Exceptions to the rule are Li-Ion batteries which do not suffer from the memory effect.
This was off of a site about laptop batteries, but I do know it applies to rechargeable batteries in all devices.  It's like training the battery to think it can only last 15 min until it believes in itself.  I know my friend has had an iPod since the first generation (big, heavy, bulky), and he has not had problems with short(er) battery life.  He uses it almost every day and it still keeps a good 7.5 to 8 hours of charge.  You people must be doing something wrong.

does that apply to regular batteries such as AA? Becuase i bought a set of 4 AA for my digital camera and they are not holding the charge as long as they used to. And i let them fully drain before I charge them. Ive had them for almost a year now so Im guessing they are just old. But im wondering how long rechargable batteries last.

Not sure about that one, I would guess it depends on the type of battery (I think there are 2 kinds of rechargeable that have this "memory" effect, only Li-Ion are immune to it).  It may also depend on the kind of battery, I know that I've never been able to get AA batteries to recharge for more than about 30 times, but I still have RC cars in the basement that would go as much as I could play with them when I was a kid.
