He's just another religious symbol that our society chooses to single out because we cant deal with the troubles of our own lives so we have to surround ourselves with matters that dont really deal with us at all to feel like better human beings. The pope is only a symbol of catholicism, christianity really has nothing to do with it.

Look at the terri schiavo story. What in the world did that have to do with anything? Yet it was made into the biggest news story of the month. For no reason. Hundreds of thousands of people die everyday. what made her so speicial.

Im not saying that the pope wasnt special but when you come down to it all he is, is a symbol of the church. Nothing more. He may of done good things but he only served one purpose.

im not gonna lie , im catholic and went to catholic school for 12 years and go to church every weekend. the pope was not just a symbol. the pope is the closest line of ascendants to peter. so to catholics, he is the closest person to jesus. the pope makes choices to make the faith better for catholic believers.

when was the last time you did something good for the world? probably nothing so fork off. stop being anti religion and go help out at a soup kitchen or donate clothes to help homeless people and maybe your opinion might be credible. the world is full of hypocrites who would rather expect other people to fix it rather than trying to make it better doing little things.

well uh being a christian for many years I can tell you that christians dont really like catholics at all. they think they worship the saints more than jesus. which is something they look down upon. I was also raised in the catholic church, being baptised and all that. Ive studied religion for many years and come to the conclusion that most of it is quit silly. I dont believe in the christian idea of god and think church is a silly concept. You dont have to go to church to believe in god or worship god. But to each his own. If you believe in it, that's great. Whatever keeps you happy...or numb. whatever.

try being homeless and then come and argue with me. I dont think anyone can fully understand what it means to do something good for the world unless you've lived it yourself. When I was homeless there were no shelters I could go to, the only food I got was at a church once a day. And the only people who came to help out the kids on the streets were people from a church. So yeah, im not saying that the church is bad. But most of the time they would try to 'convince' us that we should believe in god. Most people look down on homeless people and think that if they wanted to they could get out of it. Its really not all that easy. But then again there are only a select few groups out there that are willing to help out.

Ive said it before and i'll say it again, I hate this country for many reason, but one of them is americas unwillingness to help out our own people. The gonvernment leaves it up to churches and private organazations to help out the poor and homeless in the US, while they go off and give relief to foreign contries that could care less and will probably attack us in the near future. And the fact that while I was homeless there was no way I could get government assistance because I wasnt 24 and I didnt have a baby! But they still give tons of welfare money out to illegal families who have tons of kids just for the money. They give it to people who dont really need it and here I was just turned 18 sleeping on the streets and eating out of trash cans. What kind of crap is that. When you're country is not willing to take care of their own people yet give millions of dollars in aid to foreign countries without a blink of an eye. it really pisses me off.

Of course one can argue anyone who believes in christ is a Christian, but theres large differences between all of the different sects of Christianity. Catholics are amongst the worst of the sects--for two reasons: their priests cannot marry, which makes them go after lil boys/girls. *cough* They can also confess whenever they wish, and be absolved of any sin, wtf type of message is that?

The innaccuracy of that statement makes me sick. True, they can confess, and true, they can be absolved of any sin, however it takes 'two to tango' as they say. The absolution means absolutly nothing if the sinner doesn't have the desire to be repentant. Mearly going to a confessor and recieving the absolution is nothing unless the person is truly sorry for what they did. Either way, God knows.

As far as the statement you made before that (about priests), you will find that type of person in all walks of life. More attention is drawn to them because they are priests, though. People often look for a reason to cause anger and hatred and they use that as one of their attacks. While I make no move to defend priests who do that sort of thing, an individual's actions don't stand to represent a group as a whole, as many would make us believe. If it did, I'd call you a racist because I've seen many of those.

As it stands, I don't have the power to change your beliefs, nor you mine. People have been fighting over religion since the beginning of the human race. More than one war has begun in an effort to wipe out the blasphemous beliefs of the pagans.

Religion is a vital part of human life, whether it is admitted or not. It extends beyond the conventional meaning of the word. It's not just about believing or not believing in a god or higher power. It's a set of beliefs that a person holds to be the truth, without proof. Even saying, 'There is no proof of God therefore I decide that there is not one.' is religion.

Some people will spend hours, days, years debating internally and externally to convince themselves of one thing or another. Others choose not to and simply follow as they were taught to follow.

Problems only arise when people decide to condemn or convert.
With that, I now attempt to bring the thread back to its original intent:
