"It's a set of beliefs that a person holds to be the truth, without proof."

Wrong. Church goers believe there is proof. Atheists certainly belive there is proof.

You're wrong in the fact that you think Artorius is wrong.  Christian's (or church goer's as you say, which has an ironic truth over using "christians") entire belief system is based on FAITH.  Faith, simply put, is believing without seeing.  A very large portion of their beliefs have no physical or historical proof, yet there are still some which have historical proof.

You're right that they believe there is proof, however..  except it's not the conventional proof you're thinking of.  They see proof in nature, and in everything around them..  they believe that the beauty, complexity, and balance of everything in existance is proof enough that a higher entity (or a god) exists.  They call it proof, but it's more of a logical assumption.

I thought "church goers" was ironic because a good amount of people who attend church do it for one of the following reasons:

1.) Status
2.) Forced by someone/something

I think it's stupid to be an athiest for many reasons.  If I were an athiest, I would have killed myself a long time ago.

Many athiests have gone to church and were turned away because honestly, some of it seems ludacris.  I was turned away from church for the same reason, but I'm not an athiest..  I decided to read the bible on my own and come to my own conclusion about how I should live my life, and what I should believe..  and even if I ended up not agreeing/believing it, the bible is an amazing book whether you choose to believe in it or not.

If you use it as a guide, I gaurantee that your life will be better than if you hadn't.  It truely is an amazing book..  there is more knowledge and wisdom in it than in anything iv'e ever come across in my life.

Actually since the entire idea of Christianity is based on Christ being real, and there is tons of proof that he is. I would have to disagree with the majority of believers needing faith. Sure theres a bit of faith, but the fact is they believe that the bible is real, they believe in their savior.. etc etc

*Atheist* Atleast get my... 'religon' right, you prejudice bastard.

Atleast spell religion right, damn.

But seriously, how can you categorize atheism as a religion? That's an oxymoron.. Yes I know you put 'religion' in qoutes.. but still.

I really don't see how 12stones was being prejudice with his previous post either..

Not that Christ is real, but that He is God. A very small but important difference. It's that idea that is what requires faith. A Christian will believe it as the truth without having any proof of it as a fact. That's what faith is.

The core idea behind faith is believing in something without (scientific) proof.

I was simply trying to show that religion is basically unavoidable and it's a core part of being human. Atheism is not about anti-religion or the denial of religions. It has little to do with religion itself, only a very specific part of most common religions. The part about a God or gods.

Quote
a·the·ism
n.

   1.
         1. Disbelief in or denial of the existence of God or gods.
         2. The doctrine that there is no God or gods.
   2. Godlessness; immorality.

That being so, atheism itself is a fully qualified religion.

WTF?

If Christ wouldn't have supposedly performed miracles, he wouldn't have had the following that he did then, and still does.

Christ was born and raised a mortal. He only ascended to godhood three days after his death.

And, on an unrelated note, whoever spelled ludicrous "ludacris" needs to be slapped. Ludacris is the name of a terrible rapper. Ludicrous is the word you're looking for.

Did you know the actual requirements to become a pope is just that you are a catholic male?  You dont have to be a cardinal or anything.
