Tribes Legends

http://www.legendsthegame.net/

This is an open source game created on the Tribes 2 engine.  To me, the graphics are well improved, and the gameplay is much better.  There is even bumpmapping on the ground surfaces (check out the snow!)

I have played around with it for about 30 minutes and found it enjoyable.  Unfortunately, there is not a soul to play with, so if anybody would like to play, please IM me on aim or something.

No vehicles... yet.  Its not a complete game, remember.  What I was hoping to do was to get more people interested in it.  People tell people, word of mouth, IM, forums, etc, and boom they get more dev people to make the game even cooler.

I have tried running it on my linux machine.  I can load the map just fine, but when I fire to spawn, the game crashes.

It feels smoother to me. And faster.  I'm not as used to using their form of the spinfusor, though.  You'll notice from the start (when you play against people, that is, not alone) that the spinfusor is different.

Are you talking runescape or any other generic, 99% of RPGs where you fight 200+ rats in a row to upgrade to 300+ birds and then +INF gophers.  And that's just to get to level one.  Some games like Animal Crossing are slow paced but appealing for that pace.  What I don't like is games where you don't have control over the pace (see campers in CS) or the pace is slow and boring at the same time.

ever heard of operation flashpoint?  very realistic, and can get VERY slow paced.  trying to charge into the battle head on to try to make it "faster paced" would get you killed

i love when people try to rush things since the common gamer nowadays likes the (now regular) paced simple action games.

now the limit for slow paced for me is gunbound.  its ok if it goes normally and everyone attacks quickly.  now when someone starts lagging, everyone gets pissed
