its just like "End Of The World" describes it. California is going to break off....to go hang with Hawaii. Alaska can come too. THE END!!

Oh yea, and isnt Logarithms dealth with in 10x? That would make...wait u know what, I think I might have gotten that confused with the Decibal System. Cuz isnt like 20dB 10x worse than 19dB? That might have been it.

logb y = x is logarithmic format.

No, california is just breaking off of the U.S...  to go hang with hawaii.  Alaska will be there if the ancient flash prophecy is really true..

Hey there... the 5.3 one was by Yukipa (spelling?) and it wasn't that bad.

As for the "Tsunami warning" quake... I think the warning was quite a joke because the magnitude, depth, and distance from the shore were not in the right parameters.  There is a heightened surf warning for this part of the state (northern coast, california, Eureka and Crescent City areas) but that is due to a major storm that just rolled in last night.  As far as I can tell, this Tsunami warning thing was a jump of the gun simply because people were worried... not a bad thing to worry about, but a little silly based on the data we got from the usgs.gov website when it first happened.

I felt the 7.2 as I was sitting here in my dorm room; pretty weak; my room mate didn't even notice it until I pointed it out.  Once we looked up the preliminary data it was not a real worry.  People in Eureka (10 miles farther south) didn't even feel it in a gorcery store my woman works at, and nothing fell off the shelves.

So... it wasn't very exciting... maybe for a good thing.


The recent 5.3 down near you area, however, happened as my woman friend was on the phone with her mother.. who proceeded to scream "oh my god" for the duration of the quake, then hang up the phone... thus freaking out my woman friend.  I looked it up on usgs.gov and we were kind of relieved to see it was up by Yukipa (spelled wrong probably) as well as only a 5.3.  I was in a 5.6 a few years back and that wasn't even that bad... just some shaking.

Oh... and concearning the breaking off of california... I am pretty sure that is not possible as the plate of the earth which contains LA and is moving north west along side of the North American Plate... so if anything... that plate will raise california up higher and prevent the ocean from eating it... or it will cause california to sink in to the ocean.. anything but break off and say hello to anything else.


I found a good picture to show this...

This one shows the "Juan De Fuca" Plate moving inland from the pacific ocean, the "North American" Plate moving south east toward mexico, and the "Pacific" Plate moving North West, toward the "Juan De Fuca" plate.

This one shows the county division lines (created by humans... nothing to do with faults really) for california.  I live in Humboldt County, which is the second one down on the left side.

well i can understand you not feeling it. the 5.3 was about an hour from me in san bernadino. i felt it pretty good. my house was shaking slightly and right as i was asking my mom what the shaking was the whole house started to shake really bad. i didnt think it was a quake at first because i live about a mile from a military base and they do practice in the feild all the time so it seemed normal.

i think the tsunami warning was crap. when they played the emergency warning on the radio i pretty much laughed.

i just think its weird that there have been 3 decent sized quakes since sunday. they said that there is no way they are related.....so it all seems kinda odd. but then again this past year has been hell as far as weather and such. the hurricanes on the east the horrible storms in so cal and now all the earth quakes. im just waiting for fire season to start....i can tell its going to be bad this year.
