Now there are DVD problems
« on: May 1, 2006 08:13 pm CDT »
My ATI TV Wonder Pro is giving me crap.

As you can see, for some reason, DMA on my hard drive is not enabled. I cannot figure out for the life of me why or how, as from what I have read, windows XP automatically enables it.

I've been looking around my settings, and I stumbled on this set:
Wtf Settings?

I do not have SP1 or 2, and i do not intend to. Is there any solution?

I'd say use Linux, but the 550 Pro chip has no support.

As a point of history:  Our last server clear was on September 27, 2004.  That is 4963 days ago (13.6 years) as of today.

If you're visiting after a long hiatus and have forgotten your password, try emailing me via the support form at http://www.pcrpg.org.

If your character is from after the 2004 clear but appears to have been deleted or reset, chances are it was caught in one of the inactive account purges over the years.  Backups were made before such events, so try the support form.

Just to clarify, does the TV Wonder Pro use the 550 chip? Because there's also a Theatore 550 Pro, but thats not what I have.

Seems it doesn't.  The TV Wonder Elite does though.  You could use that under linux.

You dont have Sp1  or 2 installed. Wtf why not?  If you don't atleast have sp 1 installed you can't get windows updates.  Just install sp2, there isn't a reason not to unless you don't have a legal windows key.

That's really not a valid reason. I know of someone who sleeps in my room who has been using a corporate version of windows XP since release.

If that really is the case then just get a non blacklisted key.  I've had a corporate one for years.

If you can't afford windows I would suggest the linux route.  Even with that key I have I still run linux 99.9% of the time.

I forgot to add that the same person has been updating the whole time and that if you don't update your copy of XP with security updates, you're either retarded or on a computer that never hooks up to a network of any kind.  That's it.

Yep. You are missing every security update in the past few years.  Without SP1 or 2 you can't even use windowsupdate.  Only cheap drivers from a cheap mobo or other device would cause windows to fsck up everytime you update it.

With the dma problem you're pretty much screwed and won't find much help anywhere without updating.
