I have SP1, but I don't have SP2 on MY computer.  My girlfriend's computer (the one im on right now) has both SP1 and SP2 and she hasn't had a single problem with a virus, compatibility issues, or anything.  I guess that isn't saying much since it's a laptop and she only uses it for school (internet explorer, winamp/WMP for music and DVDs).

You might as well update and just re-install anything or fix anything that breaks..  it will do you more good in the end, and after all the drama with SP2, i'm sure microsoft will think twice before releasing anything that destroys all compatibility with anything.

If it really matters that much, switch to linux.  I use linux most of the time on MY computer simply because it's..  well, more simple.

At this point, running XP without SP2 is like going to Africa to have a 12-hour orgy.

You're begging for something.

As a point of history:  Our last server clear was on September 27, 2004.  That is 4963 days ago (13.6 years) as of today.

If you're visiting after a long hiatus and have forgotten your password, try emailing me via the support form at http://www.pcrpg.org.

If your character is from after the 2004 clear but appears to have been deleted or reset, chances are it was caught in one of the inactive account purges over the years.  Backups were made before such events, so try the support form.

I'm still here. I updated.

But to my dismay (and actually, im not surprised) my problems havent been fixed. I still cant turn on DMA, even though it says I should be able to. Once again, microsoft kicks me in the crotch repeatedly.

According to the all the help files, there should be an 'Advanced Settings' tab in the Properties of my HDD under Device Manager. Well it's not there, and I dont know wtf to do.

One of these days...grrr...

Havent you seen the reports?  If you are not running legit xp, microsoft will begin to tag and annoy your system, constantly reminding you that you are not running legit xp.

I'm assuming you have an IDE harddrive.  DMA settings are  under the IDE controller settings. Not under the HD.  Check the Primary and Secondary IDE settings.

If what xenos said isn't it, then check in your BIOS settings to make sure it's enabled there. If that doesn't work, try updating your controller driver (or changing it to the standard IDE driver.)

edit I swear to god if it's what Xenos said you need to go back to 8th grade and take some reading comprehension courses.

DMA settings are under the controller's properties, not the hard drive's.

1 IDE and 1 SATA

I thought this looked familiar, and then I remembered: I've been here before, and It still didn't work. Even after all the SPs (I now have SP2), im still getting the same error. grrrr.

And I know it's enabled in BIOS, ive been there numerous times and checked to make sure of it.

Something else I forgot to point out. A while back when i was still trying to deal with this same problem, I stumbled across this:

Ive searched up and down for 'dma controllers' but i sure didnt find anything. Now im not even sure if im looking for the right thing.

So when you unselect Let Bios Select Transfer Mode the drop down above that doesn't give you any option that will prevent that error from showing up?

uhm...your grammar really confused me so uhh..

Yes? When I unselect the BIOS box, I can select different transfer modes. However I just checked my BIOS settings and indeed, IDE DMA transfer access is enabled. Under the drop-down menus, the already selected modes are the fastest available on my computer (or at least according to the menu)

This is the problem.

TV Wonder Pro still isn't detecting that DMA is on. I've tried DLing the drivers from the ATI website, but they don't help. In fact, they freeze half of the time when I try to install them.

Also, on a side note, the DVD Decoders still arent being installed. I've installed the MMC from the CD that came with my card, but there I dont think there are decoders on the CD itself. Ugh.

Does the software work correctly?  If so just click the "Don't show this again" checkbox and forget about it.

If it isn't working correctly then I can only think of a few things.

1. SATA DMA isn't enabled in the bios
2. The software cant detect DMA correctly because its a SATA drive and dosen't use a UDMA mode. (OTW guess, could be totally wrong)

The ss you posted show only one channel of each controller. Is that the only sata drive you have?  From what I see you have one sata and one ide drive.
