PCRPG IRC
« on: May 19, 2006 10:46 pm CDT »
If you don't play on the server anymore or have no idea what IRC is, please ignore this post.

PCRPG now has an IRC channel which is synced to the game server. You can send and receive messages from the Tribes server, but in order to send them, you need to be registered/identified with NickServ and the game server. URL: http://www.linneberg.com/rpgirc

To register:
1. Connect to the IRC channel with the java applet (or a program like mIRC, DNIRC, or Trillian)

2. Type /nickserv register password e-mail (where password is a password you'd like to use, and e-mail is your e-mail) **Only needs to be done once**

3. Join PCRPG's game server with your character and type allow IRC in #global. **Only needs to be done once**

4. Then, to authenticate yourself, just type /nickserv identify password in the irc channel, with password being the password you chose in step 2. **Needs to be done once per IRC session**

*update*
The #PCRPG chat has moved. It is now on irc.dynamix.com which means you can access it directly from Tribes IRC (or other methods like Firefox).

You can access IRC with firefox?  I never knew that.  Maybe I should go extension surfing more often.

Hmm. Well, there probably is an IRC extension. But I was referring to a webpage... I said Firefox instead of web browser to promote Firefox use :P

The best way to promote firefox use is to say, "GET FIREFOX OR YOU'LL GET AIDS!"  I think it'll work

Oddly enough, FF has had more security problems than IE 6.

As a point of history:  Our last server clear was on September 27, 2004.  That is 4963 days ago (13.6 years) as of today.

If you're visiting after a long hiatus and have forgotten your password, try emailing me via the support form at http://www.pcrpg.org.

If your character is from after the 2004 clear but appears to have been deleted or reset, chances are it was caught in one of the inactive account purges over the years.  Backups were made before such events, so try the support form.

I can't recall a problem I've ever had with Firefox. For a while, some pages wouldn't display properly because Firefox wasn't quite compatable with them, but IETab quickly solved that.
I can't live without tabbed browsing.

Me neither.  Tabbed browsing is the future of surfing!  Tabbed browsing makes surfing 20 times easier when you multitask or when you wanna save a link, i.e. using google.

I use Firefox, but loathe tabbed browsing. That's pretty weird. There was an extension that gets rid of all tabbed browsing elements in firefox, but it stopped working long ago :(

Why do you need to get rid of tabbed browsing? Just don't press control t....
And you can easily make it so links don't open in new tabs, but do open in new windows, or even the same window..

I know Rose...
But you can accidentally click "Open link in new tab" when you right click on a link. Also, clicking the mousewheel opens a link in a new tab regardless. It happens just often enough to make me miss TabKiller :( And not having tab-related buttons everywhere reduces clutter in the interface.
