PROBLEM:
cmd
ping http://www.google.com -t

OH NOES
Request timed out!! *does this for about 10-15 seconds*
Okay.
Good pings (28ms) for about 1 minute.
OH NOES! AGAIN!? over and over.

What the fork is going on with my connection. Ive reset the router firmware. i went straight to the cable modem. I replaced the cable modem. I called my ISP. I have to call back and talk to a Level 2 today.

I am a network tech support agent.. I should know what the hell is going on with this. I dont. This doesnt make sense AT ALL.

Its cable, 5m/512. No settings have been changed, everythings been power cycled 3 or 4 times.

Guess away.

What are you worried about?  Are you getting issues from google not returning your ping?  Or is your connection dropping every minute or so?

if you can eliminate your network wiring and any internal coax or splitters with a tester/tone then just unsavory woman until the cable company fix it. I'm having a similiar problem right now since the house I'm living in has lots of old, non quad shielded coax that's split off to about 8 rooms.  Until I can get up the energy to rerun the new coax and replace the crappy radio shack splitters with one nice splitter I just disconnected all of the non essential cable TV lines.

When you notice the connection dropping, have you ever been able to not access the cable modem?  Because if it's inaccessible, then chances are you just need to unsavory woman to get one of their technicians out there and figure it out since that will be almost entirely their stuff.

Next time you lose connection, try pinging in increasing circles of the network.

1)  Ping another machine on the network that won't reject it because of a firewall (or just ping your router if there are no such available destinations).
2)  Assuming that replies, ping an IP available on the Internet.  A DNS server is preferable.  I'd test with 151.164.70.201.
3)  Assuming that replies, ping a textual address, such as google.com.

If step three completes, there's nothing wrong with your connection.

If step three doesn't complete but step two does, you have a DNS problem and need to put in a different server (the one I suggested you ping to test with would be a good choice until they shut it down later this year--never seems to be down).

If steps three and two won't complete but step one does, you've got a problem with your Internet connection (or less likely, your computer).

If none of the steps complete, you've got a problem with your basic network--meaning your WiFi and/or your wired network, including your cable modem.

As a point of history:  Our last server clear was on September 27, 2004.  That is 4963 days ago (13.6 years) as of today.

If you're visiting after a long hiatus and have forgotten your password, try emailing me via the support form at http://www.pcrpg.org.

If your character is from after the 2004 clear but appears to have been deleted or reset, chances are it was caught in one of the inactive account purges over the years.  Backups were made before such events, so try the support form.
