You're thermal interface material must have been bad.  Look up a tutorial on applying Arctic Silver 5.

As a point of history:  Our last server clear was on September 27, 2004.  That is 4963 days ago (13.6 years) as of today.

If you're visiting after a long hiatus and have forgotten your password, try emailing me via the support form at http://www.pcrpg.org.

If your character is from after the 2004 clear but appears to have been deleted or reset, chances are it was caught in one of the inactive account purges over the years.  Backups were made before such events, so try the support form.

Well...

I like to support all platforms and all hardwares...

My main machine (not used in a month though.. out of town) is what I voted; AMD running Xp Pro.

My mobile device is a Mac Powerbook that is 3.5 years old in about 2 months, running the previous version of OSX on the PPC chip (intel chip didn't exist back then.)

My next machine is supposed to run dual boot of some kind of Linux (I change my mind constantly) and windows98se behind a hardware firewall to deal with security issues.

Uhhh.... If windows98se would take full advantage of more than 128mb or ram.. I would probably still be running that OS, but XP seems to be doing me ok at the moment.. and OSX has yet to give me any problems.

Anyway.. uh.. *scramble*

amd athlon 2800+ OCd to 2.15ghz on the stock HSF gets to 60*C w/ prime95. Dont tell me AMD is hot. Try that with an intel.

My Intel P4 (northwood core), which stocks at 2.4ghz, has been overclocked, stable, to 3.4ghz and loads at around 55*C.  Stock HSF and heatspreader are lapped.

It wasnt until the prescott core that intel became notoriously hot.

I want to start using my cpu to it's fullest, this is humiliating

I've been using Windows XP 32-bit for about a year with this Athlon 64.  The 64-bit edition is just not ready for serious use.  Driver support is flakey at best.  Older stuff isn't supported and newer stuff isn't supported well enough.  Video drivers are especially flakey.  Other 64-bit versions of drivers I need to run my system, for an example, don't even work.
