Making DVD's
« on: August 21, 2006 10:41 am CDT »
So, my mom has this avi file related to her nutrition class that she wants burned to a DVD so it can be playable in a DVD player. Does anyone know of any programs that will convert and burn video files to be compatible w/ DVD players? I thought I was onto something with Nero Studio 7, but the DVD it ended up with failed miserably. Thanks =)

This guide http://http://www.afterdawn.com/guides/archive/avi_to_dvd_avi2dvd.cfm looks simpler than this guide http://http://www.doom9.org/index.html?/mpg/avi2dvdr.htm.

Go to hell Macrovision for stealing DVD Decrypter away from us.

That sucks, but I only ever used it as a last resort, anyway. There are other programs that work just as well.

Thanks Xenos for the help, but both of the programs failed to work. I kept getting a message like "Could not load libavcodec MPEG2". I've tried googling it and no solutions came up (wasnt surprised, for something obscure as this). Even the Afterdawn forums didn't have anything useful either. There's a thread titled "Convert AVI, Xvid, DivX to DVD", but the programs in there were even less useful than Avi2Dvd.

*sigh*

I think all I need is an encoder or SOMETHING to convert an Avi to any format that can be burned to DVD (even ISO). Does anyone (Slorge, Parti, Darwin?) have any programs capable of doing that?

You can't covert to something you don't have a codec for, which is what I believe you're missing.
avi2dvd is an excellent program, lots of features/options, pretty easy to use. Once you get the files you need to convert things.

Instead of a long, time consuming guide, I'll let Doom9 do it for me:

As a point of history:  Our last server clear was on September 27, 2004.  That is 4963 days ago (13.6 years) as of today.

If you're visiting after a long hiatus and have forgotten your password, try emailing me via the support form at http://www.pcrpg.org.

If your character is from after the 2004 clear but appears to have been deleted or reset, chances are it was caught in one of the inactive account purges over the years.  Backups were made before such events, so try the support form.
