I'm going to have to agree with the producers of the show on that one.  It's a classic figure that should be able to be played by anyone.  It isn't exactly like Shatner wants to play it anymore.

Sure anyone can play it, but I just can't see anyone else spreading the message as crackshot-dramatically as Shatner.

That was just a byproduct of his bad acting skills in those days.  If you listen to his lines in Generations (for example), you'll notice that he doesn't speak like that as Kirk.

I loved the Shatner roast. I'm totally going to buy the DVD. I wanted to see what Fred Willard had to say. They really got Takei with all the gay jokes. I almost felt bad, but he seemed to be having fun.

Andy Dick on the other hand...was he just acting mad or was he really pissed after all the gay jokes towards him?

Ok, if you didnt know, Andy Dick went on a licking spree (dick licking spree, hehe).  When the show was over, he had a girl reporter in his dressing room.  He tried to kiss her, then groped her, offered her some coke, bit her hand, urinated in the corner, and then ranted about how people think he's weird.

I remember the licking spree. He licked Carrie Fisher. And Farrah Faucet (sp?)...and some other dudes. Man he's weird.
