Hey folks. It's getting to be that time where I start complaining about my 3D hardware again. I've got two real choices.
I'm currently using a Radeon X800XT Platinum Edition (R420). I was wanting to get a DX10 card (G80/R600), but with them each sucking down about 250W by themselves I'd need a bigger PSU just to run the damn things safely. That would run about 150-200 more dollars.
So. It's a question of price versus power versus performance.
The R580 based cards (X1900XT) are really fast. They're even faster than the GeForce 7900GT cards by about 10-15%. Undoubtedly, R600 will be significantly faster, but will draw twice as much power as the X1900 and four times as much power as my X800. More power means more money in electricity and more money since I'd need a new PSU. However, it would give me DirectX 10 capability unlike current generation hardware. Not sure how important that is going to become in the next year.
I know most of you don't know much about computers, but here's your opportunity to vote regardless! Pick one. I'll probably go with however the poll ends up by October 22, 2006.
