respect towards other players
« on: February 10, 2003 11:44 pm CST »
Lately it saddens my how much respect people are giving towards other players. I really like this server, and mostly i play here because of the people, like Eternal, 0neofthe8, Pecker, and many others that I havent named. I figured people would be more respectful here, and they were, but it really pisses me off, and saddens me when someone tells another person to STFU, for not doing anything. I wont name names here, Edom and Tetsuo_Shima, but these are the kind of people that start crap around here. For instance, I fell off tden for the third time, and me thinking that Dirk pushed me (which i know he didnt now, hes still cool and a friend in my book) I got mad and asked why he pushed me, but for some reason, all the attention wasnt on Edom for once, and he got PMS and told me to STFU. Well i know yall are gonna think im b*tching or something, but I respect alot of players, and sometimes i wish they would respect me/others more... I hope someone atleast agrees with me on this topic.

You have a very good point remote.

I have to be frank, cause I found something funny.  In multiplayer games, such as half life and tribes, people demand respect.  Though in game, we mutilate each other.  I find that semi comical.

Not a problem, remote.  In my house, if I dont show respect towards my parents, its hell to pay.  I think the last time I smarted off to my dad I got a clout on the side of the face.

Of course, I don't remember what I had for breakfast this morning, either.

hey, its all cool.
At times we ALL get a little bent out of shape. :) At times, we even get into arguments.
What we need to do is understand that it is a game and not that big of a deal where hard feelings would develope. This is a role playing game and as such calls for teamwork and trust. This is something we ALL need to work on. (including myself)
When someone gets bent out of shape, its usually best to address the behavior rather than the player. This will help the hard feelings from forming.
There are people here who have acted likes asses towards me and I replied in kind. If I had addressed the actions rather then then the players, I would not have developed the hard feelings I have towards them. (which I am trying to work out currently with them and having partial success.)
likewise, some may feel that I have acted like an ass towards them (I probobly did in some way) and likewise, if they had addressed my behavior rather than me, they would not have the hard feelings they do towards me.
A good way to judge for yourself whether or not this has happened to you, watch a player who you think is an ass silently. watch how they interact with others. It might have been that they are model players and good examples of who you would normally wish to play with and that you just happened to catch them at a bad time once.
Since everyone who plays is a real person in real life, we will always have good and bad days and they will be reflected in how you act on the server. Likewise, everyone sees a different picture on their screen so different perspectives will be prevelant for different players. In effect, what you see as a fact, I might have a different angle of vision and I would be able to make a statment as a fact by seeing it from a diofferent view. thus, we would have conflicting "facts" that we each totally believe to be true. Keep this in mind when dealing with such events and understand that with these sorts of problems, democracy and effort are needed to find actual solutions. I'd MUCH rather have a solution than an argument ANY day of the week.

I'm old fashioned. I was brought up in an old fashioned "redneck" or "hick"  household. we stressed honesty, honor and martial honor.
We also used the masonic creedo of treating everyone with dignity and respect. As for smarting off.... I never even thought about it because respect for my elders was SO ingrained into me. But if I had, I'da got my block knocked off.

LOL
remote, I think he was making fun of me.
Due to my disability, I have a tendancy to overanalize things and this makes me long winded. However, as with all of my other long posts, it is worth the read.
