censorship
« on: December 19, 2006 05:37 pm CST »
today while playing bonzai told me how he got a prob with me being a perv.
He told me how some 8 year old might be affected by that...sigh
now I know I've been saying some pretty nasty stuff lol
just like many other (but i wouldnt be surprised people said i was the worst one)
now my point should this be allowed or should i just get banned for behaviour?
I'm not a perv all the time I can talk about serious stuff too I just dont get the chance to...
how far should censorship go?
I mean can't we just talk between youngsters about sex?
okay some young kids might hear it...but now do we have to keep having boring conversation all the time, just to watch out for the lil one...
I keep my perverted side for myself against some poeple , for exemple I wont start being a real perv against hubba...
you got other things like racism who keep coming back ...now as i don't know how much admins care about that...but what is worse : saying f*** you ; youre a stupid jew or you can s*** my 7 inches
I gues theyre all wrong lol
but now how far should we all be limited in our conversetion...
cursing isnt allowed im okay with that...racism dont make me start on that...
sex...why cant we talk about it ? i mainly talk about it with the older guys...

age is another important factor
hubba and bonzai will censor way more then corona or rose
words like f*** b****  hubba or bon kick for it easely
corona and other pks wont...in fact ive never even heard them complaining about that
sex is the same...in fact it was corona kinda pushing me lol to say some perverted things lol
most persons i talk about sex are univ guys or older and they dont have a prob with it...
i think is younger pks and admins were on they would allow more ofcourse
Hubba and bonzai censor a bit too much considering all those older guys...
even cursing is overrated...how many times do u say f*** in real life...no cop will jail u for that

just want some opinions about how far they should censor all the talking on pcrpg

This would be easily solved if Particle would make an official rule regarding global message content (above and beyond the simple spamming rule).

you know what it just comes down to respect. repsect for everyone. im 23 and i dont like to hear that crap. i play on this server to have fun, not to hear racial slurs or get sexually harrased. it also just comes down to respecting another person wishes. honestly is it really that hard to keep your conversations positive and about things that are civil to talk about. trust me in real life i curse like a sailor but on the forums i keep it to a minimum becasue i respect bonzai and hubba.

its really simple. and i dont think this warrents a post on the forums. you know how they admin now just respect them.

respecting is something that is needed...sry i went overboard today aphex...
but i can't be talking about boring stuff all the time lol
I try avoiding sex related stuff when hubba is on but when she or bonzai aint i dont...but i do it only against certain people i know they're old enough

like cor said making rules about this would solve it all; if this is done i just dont want it to be too limited as I want to keep some of the freedom of speech i have on the forum
respecting is one thing but starting to heavely punish for this would be something i cant stand for
im happy as it is now and want to keep it that way...its just sad that some people go harder on us then others...

parents who are 35 year old will allow less than 25 years old ones

I respect and attempt to enforce established rules.

Trust me, when this makes it into the official rules page, not only will I obey it as I do all rules, but I will install a 24/7 censor on Tokath to make sure you do too.

Until then, it's admin preference.

I have always asked that if you need to talk that way. Do it in zone group or party. Give people a chance to leave if they are in the same zone. I have never censored someone who talked like that in private. If I have it was by mistake. All I ask is that you respect the others in the server by not doing it on global chat. Keep the global chat clean. What is so hard about it?

why do you think that the only things that are fun to talk about are the ones that most find offensive. we are not all 12 year old boys that think its fun to talk about "OMGZXZBOOBBBS" or anything else along those lines. I have tons of fun conversations that dont invole anything like that. I mean its really a shame when i have to turn global off becasue every other word is something about sex or swearing.

That's exactly what I was thinking.

Besides, sex and Tribes RPG are mutually exclusive.

Traditionally, I've let my admins handle chat censorship how they please.  I'm not one to care much about language for the sake of language, but my personality doesn't represent everybody.  Since this is the case, I normally trust whatever level of censoring my admins feel is suitable to the server's population.  Since they are on and mingle with the players more than I do, I default to their judgment about what is appropriate for the people on at any given time.

Now, keep in mind that most of our players are probably young (under eighteen).  Many are also what I would consider children (under thirteen).  Since we don't require a particular age in order to play on the server, we do need to conform a little bit to what would be considered appropriate for the lowest age group.  Now, keep in mind that this only applies to the global, zone, shout, and say channels.  I do not care what you discuss among a group of willing friends in group or via tell and reply.  More power to you to discuss anything you feel like, provided that it is legal in the United States for you to be doing so and whatever laws apply to you where you live.  I do not, however, want to feel responsible for obscenities spammed in global chat.  A twelve year old does not need to hear about your latest imaginary sexual encounter, and a twenty year old won't care.  So, keep it out of the public channels.  Do not harass members with it, either.  Just because I don't care what you talk about in #tell, that doesn't mean that I won't care about you harassing another member of our community.

As a point of history:  Our last server clear was on September 27, 2004.  That is 4963 days ago (13.6 years) as of today.

If you're visiting after a long hiatus and have forgotten your password, try emailing me via the support form at http://www.pcrpg.org.

If your character is from after the 2004 clear but appears to have been deleted or reset, chances are it was caught in one of the inactive account purges over the years.  Backups were made before such events, so try the support form.

So, to paraphrase, obscenities that would be inappropriate for <13 year olds to see in all channels except for private messages and Group chat are not allowed?

I'm 12 years old lol
actually seriously speaking (which im most of the time not when talking dirty malarkey)
I got other things to discus I don't dream about naked girls all the time...
somehow i crosssed the line at some point...its pretty much the first time i did it on the net
in real life it wont matter as people who i talk dirty know me...and they know I got lots of others things to do...
you don't come on a lot so don't say such stuff about me...
and if it really bothered you why not say it did instead of hiding opinions...
all you had to say is stop it seriously bothers me...and i would have stopped...
I will stop from now on ofcourse

hasn't this already been covered in this forum

http://http://forums.pcrpg.org/viewtopic.php?t=3916 (Swearing...)

respect is respect, be it refraining from swearing or vulgar choice of conversation.  Use #tell so you don't offend anyone except who you mean to.  That way, they can #ignore you and the problem is solved.

If there are any on, pretty much yes.  I don't really see the problem with that, as anything but filth is perfectly fine at all times.  We're in a hazy area in regards to COPPA, so try to keep it clean.
