Pet food recall
« on: March 19, 2007 02:12 pm CDT »
As I have seen many of the participants on PCRPG have pets, cats in particular, I thought I'd share this with you.

We had to put down our youngest cat "Lil Fella" last week, due to kidney failure,  which the vet said was very unusual in a cat so young. His kidneys had stopped operating completely and was too weak for any treatments, so we had him euthanized. Then we learned of the pet food recall by Menu Foods.

A couple of days ago, we noticed our oldest cat, "Maks" vomiting...a few times in so many days, which was odd.  We took him to the vet and turns out he's on the same road as "Lil Fella" but not as bad.  He's currently in the animal hospital getting IV fluids to help flush his system.  With any luck he'll recover.

Our third cat "Buddy" oddly shunned the food, which he normally loved, during that time period.  His blood test came back normal and he seems fine.

My wife and I have started a blog on blogger.com for people to post their stories of similar experiences.  The national news media stated that only 10 cats and a few dogs had been affected, however, we've received more comments than that just within the last 24 hours.

So far my wife's done interviews with USA Today, the Orlando Sentinal and WTOC TV in Savannah, GA.  One of the people who contacted us is getting in touch with a lawyer, too.

Please go to http://http://www.menufoods.com/recall and make sure the food your giving to your pet is not on the list, and if your brand is there, you may want to take you pet to the vet to have some blood tests done.

If you find that your pets is suffering or dying because of this, please contact us by commenting on the first post at http://http://petfoodrecall.blogspot.com  We're trying to get a feel for how many animals have been affected by the tainted food and also lend support to those who have lost pets.

Thanks to the PCRPG community for letting me post this and spread the word.

Threw out all my Special Kitty food as soon as I found out yesterday. We got her a big box of packets for Christmas (Yes, pets in my family get presents on Holidays and Birthdays just like anyone else), but we'd only given her a couple of them so far.
Sorry to hear about your cats

Thanks.

the thing that pisses me off about this is that THEY knew about this in December 2006 and did nothing to warn us.  We would've still had Lil Fella around if they had told us.  :(

Sorry for the loss slorge.  I'm also sorry that now I have to throw out all of our Special Kitty.  This is so stupid.  I'm scared for our cats.  As well as our dog's food.  I have to throw out her Ol' Roy.

That's wrong dude.  Pets are awesome.  You don't need to do malarkey like that.

don't sweat it, I've still got a sense of humor.  And thanks to all of you for your well wishes.

Well, we brought Maks home, he had a day of intravenous fluids and is on the road to recovery now.  He'll be on a special diet for a while, but they think he's gonna pull through.

If your pets have shown any symptoms, take them to the vet to have their blood checked.  If you check some of the comments at http://http://petfoodrecall.blogspot.com, you'll see some pets only had 1 or 2 pouches of food and died because of it.

The national media is reporting only about 10 cats and a few dogs have been affected, but even in my little circle of influence, we've have 3 times that post stories at the blogspot website.  My wife just got off the phone with USA Today again.  They're treating her like the spokeswoman for this cause.

Yeah it really is wrong, can't say that I approve of such things at a time like this but on a different note I did tear up from laughter. I know hypocrite but I couldn't help it. 3:53AM EST (woke up my wife with the laughing, told me to get off the game and come to bed... nevah women lol).

The cats I'm around are special...ed.

The gray cat I've shown before in a different thread must seriously be mentally retarded.

As a point of history:  Our last server clear was on September 27, 2004.  That is 4963 days ago (13.6 years) as of today.

If you're visiting after a long hiatus and have forgotten your password, try emailing me via the support form at http://www.pcrpg.org.

If your character is from after the 2004 clear but appears to have been deleted or reset, chances are it was caught in one of the inactive account purges over the years.  Backups were made before such events, so try the support form.

The two oldest of my eleven cats.  The black one is turning 10.  The tiger striped one is something around 4.
