"Cloverfield" trailer in Transformers
« on: July 9, 2007 10:29 pm CDT »
If you have seen Transformers in theaters, you'd have seen this trailer before it:
http://www.apple.com/trailers/paramount/11808/hd/

There is no title, no casting credits. Just a release date and "From the producer J.J. Abrams". No footage of what is actually attacking; just the reaction of the people to "it".

The latest rumors have put a name to this under-the-radar hollywood movie: Cloverfield. However, that is yet to be confirmed or denied by any hollywood officials. Needless to say, from what little we've seen from the trailer, it looks pretty good.

There's no plot summary or anything, just a teaser website with 5 minigames, each unlocking a video clip of a man named Van Mantra, trying to give you hints and information for "when the time comes." He talks of a man named Ethan Haas who has prophesized the coming of this terror. People didn't believe him, but when more and more of his visions came true, they started to listen, especially when his visions foretold death and destruction on a scale this world has never seen.

The main website is here at http://www.ethanhaaswasright.com
There is an alternate campaign denying all of this, a blog at http://ethanhaaswaswrong.blogspot.com/

It's viral marketting alright, and it's good. I've never seen anything explode this quickly.

btw go see Transformers.

Its Godzilla.
TBH, I thought the exact same thing. Every piece of info from the trailer points to Godzilla, except the noise that it makes, and all the backstory they put into it (which is not even close to the origin of Godzilla).

In this one, the prophet Ethan Haas talks about a war between gods, with humans caught in the middle. But humans aren't innocent bystanders, because they somehow possess the ability to fight with the gods as allies. So...we're equally powerful to these Gods that are spoken of.

So...I dunno. Honestly, I'm hoping it's an original concept.

Sounds interesting.  Haven't seen the trailer yet.  Find a link for it?

Cthulhu maybe?  That would be awesome.

Basically, yeah. It was hard to hear some of the things that the "Van" guy was saying. But it sounded cool.

Whatever it is, there's tons of hidden/secret websites circulating the web about this. some fakes, some not. some no one knows.  It looks to be very interesting.  I hope it's a Cthuluhu movie!

And I guess there's a lot more going on than just those two websites. There's a guy named Jacob, and apparently Ethan Haas has a sister....or a wife. I'm not sure which. And there's a bunch of emails going out. Crazy.

Any updates on this?  I haven't seen any movies since transformers and the trailer did look pretty sweet.

Also, that ethan website supposedly has nothing to do with the movie..  the director (JJ Abrams) released a statement saying that http://www.1-18-08.com/ is the only website related to the movie that is correct.  The ethan one is for some game, apparently.

Yeah, on August 2nd I made a big post about it on another forum with a bunch of new information. There was a lot more information that time, including:

A corporation called Triston Enterprises: http://www.tritonenterprises.net
-->The Triston Ent. website included a document related to one Erik Haas, you can find that here: http://www.tritonenterprises.net/Triton ... -17-07.pdf

A website: http://www.1-18-08.com

Another website (which has now been turned raunchy and doesn't seem to relate): http://www.EHWR.com

A now extinct site: http://www.slusho.jp which contained an email address with an automated repsonse related to CLOVERFIELD

A string of websites that contained journal entries from Ethan Haas....
http://www.417stjneh.com/
http://www.6ld9102.com/
http://www.279fh7691.com/
(All of those website addresses coorespond to specific stars. One person said they're the stars in the constellation Casseopea, but others say they're stars in different constellations in the North Circumpolar region.)

A government letter referring to one Erik Haas

And something about multiple emails from different sources having the same "Building the future, one vision at a time" slogan in their signature....

Apparently all of it is unrelated. I saw that very same statement you talked about, but some keen individual pointed out that Abrams was alluding to the possibility that SOME of the websites could be real, or that his movie has other yet unfound websites. So....I don't know what's going on, but all that Ethan Haas stuff is fake. Too bad, it was really entertaining.
