Well, after going at a game of 31 Realbots in my CS game.. I have to say that was CPU limited.  My fps went to 30 avg for about 15 seconds when I guess the bots were thinking about what to do next because on de_dust they all massacre each other in the halls.  Other than that, 60FPS the whole way. (I like to keep v-sync on, although I need to turn refresh force on and have it at 85Hz, my eyes were bleeding at 60   )

Darwin, that is the 20,000th post for General Discussion.

Gotta love SBC with their 6Mbps tier for 45$
(Yes, on their site it only shows 3Mbps, but it is actually 6Mbps, I would know :)).

Its pretty hard for me to distinguish between 60fps and 80fps, since our human eyes are limited to around 35ish.

You obviously don't understand refresh rate then.

As a point of history:  Our last server clear was on September 27, 2004.  That is 4963 days ago (13.6 years) as of today.

If you're visiting after a long hiatus and have forgotten your password, try emailing me via the support form at http://www.pcrpg.org.

If your character is from after the 2004 clear but appears to have been deleted or reset, chances are it was caught in one of the inactive account purges over the years.  Backups were made before such events, so try the support form.

Yeah, uh, lets see, 85hz will limit you to 85 fps, correct?

You should find a proggie that will adjust the screen 1Hz at a time from 35 on up and you tell me then if your eyes can see faster than 35 frames per second...  Asshat...

I can definately tell a difference between 85Hz and 60, hell, I can tell 70 from 60.

85Hz doesn't exactly mean 85fps

You see, 85 fps is displaying 85 constant images within a second.  An 85Hz refresh rate means that your monitor blasts your screen with electrons 85 times a second.  What this means to you is that since your monitor is NOT on all the time (neither is a light bulb, btw--works on the same principle) and only fires 85 times a second at 85Hz (think of it like an AC waveform) that only 85 changes can occur on a pixel in a second.  Thus, you're limited to 85fps because going above would just get discarded.  However, even a single frame is being refreshed at 85Hz.  For example, playing a 30fps video on a monitor running a 60Hz refresh will actually fire the electron guns with the same frame twice before it changes.  Your monitor is flickering.  A projector displays an image continuously--unlike your monitor.

I dont think I made it very clearly, but what I said is factual.

Of course i can tell the difference between 60 and 80 hz.  I used to have my monitor set at 60hz from 5th-8th grade, and never thought of changing it.  No wonder I have vision problems now.

And why call me an asshat?

I want to see somone overclock their soundcard

If you have enough cooling devices (as well as them being in the right place) inside your computer, then you shouldnt really have problems with your overclocked system.  Of course, the chances of these components dying on you earlier than expected is increased, but if you like a few others on this forum upgrade at least once every two years, then you really shouldnt have a problem.

Voiding warranties usually scares them away.

Btw, a random question: Is Hank Blalock (plays for the Texas Rangers) related to Jolene Blalock (T'Pol from Enterprise)?

You can overclock your soundcard essentially by overclocking your PCI bus.  It won't aid much of a benefit though.

Anyhow, yeah overclocking is bad *cough*1.8GHz Barton @ 2.4GHz*cough*
