What kind of cooling do you have?  And your refresh rate speech made perfect sense to me.. I understand it now :)  Thanks!

SLK800A with a 50cfm/40dba Sunon 80mm fan

I'm considering an air-cooled 172w Peltier though.

As a point of history:  Our last server clear was on September 27, 2004.  That is 4963 days ago (13.6 years) as of today.

If you're visiting after a long hiatus and have forgotten your password, try emailing me via the support form at http://www.pcrpg.org.

If your character is from after the 2004 clear but appears to have been deleted or reset, chances are it was caught in one of the inactive account purges over the years.  Backups were made before such events, so try the support form.

172w Peltier may be a bit overkill.

Think of it this way:
If you do get such extreme overclocking tools, you would have to modify other things like your motherboard to get higher voltage.  And the never-ending cycle continues.  Swiftech has a good Peltier box set.

Gotta love SBC with their 6Mbps tier for 45$
(Yes, on their site it only shows 3Mbps, but it is actually 6Mbps, I would know :)).

I don't need a higher vcore and I have no real problem preparing for condensation.  A 172w peltier isn't quite as big as I'd like in all actuality.

A 172w will probably make my CPU run -10C to -30C.  Colder is better until you get to about -200F, at which point a lot of silicon-based electronic circuits no longer function.

As long as the room it's in is very well air conditioned, condenstation won't really be much of a problem.  But I do know a 127watt Peltier would definately condenstate on an Athlon XP, there is just no questioning that.  What kind of temperatures do you get on your SLK-800?  I'm sure they can't be that bad, if it's anything near the 100 mark, I wouldn't want to go with a peltier.

Or, you could just use this case and never worry about it...

Too bad the airflow shadow is right above the cpu, the most crucial point.  Whoever designed that case is a moron.

You don't understand.  I don't want it to keep it at an acceptable temperature.  It already is (32C/89F right now) I am wanting to overclock more. :)

I'm a speed freak.  (Not the drug kind.)

So why do you not want to mod the board to get higher vcore?  After all, that is where most of the heat comes from, not the higher mhz, but the voltage.

You still don't seem to understand me.  I DON'T CARE ABOUT THE TEMPERATURE THAT MUCH.  So long as it's under 50C, I don't care.  Colder silicon=higher MHz w/o raising vcore so much.  Higher vcore=unexpected failure.

What you fail to understand is that with thermal dynamics, making it colder will only make the lines smaller.  And the vcore pushes the information faster and more freely.  You can't just instantly overclock just because it's 0 degrees.  It will fail because it doesn't have enough clean lines to run the information through.  That is where raising the voltage comes into play.  Trust me, by raising the vcore by .5 volts, you can achieve at least 100 more MHz.

Actually, you're wrong.  Do you even know the principle of a super-conductor in this day and age?  Now, I'm not going to make it a super-conductor but the colder it gets the higher the frequency it will handle without adding extra power.  I don't know where you got your information but it's wrong.

So you are just flat out saying that I'm wrong.  Hmm, ok.. whatever you get your information from must be a giant dictionary of infinite internet wisdom and knowledge, oh wait, that book doesn't exist.
