I used to have a duck, her name was Tia, she was best friends with our Chicken, Emma. They both lived in our back yard under our porch. When one got up to walk around, they would take turns sitting on eachother's eggs, and shared the same nest. (They were both females of different species, so it was odd.)
Tia was mainly just a boring, domesticated duck, and would hardly let us pick her up. But Emma, on the otherhand, when I was 4-5 years old, would follow people around and wait to get picked up, and would be totally calm about it, in fact, she appeared to love it. We had them for a few years, but sadly while in a 2nd grade class at a Private school, I came home and I heard that they had died. They had drunk Anti-Freeze(Which is common in cars up north), and I was actually quite heartbroken. They were attracted to the anti-freeze because of its sweet smell and taste, and it was dripped on the ground in the front yard due to our crappy van. Quote my brother, David who is a mechanic: "I can understand why animals drink antifreeze and die, that stuff tastes GOOD. Windshield washer fluid on the other hand, is horrible and leaves your mouth numb for hours." Please don't cry, they're in bird heaven now... Tia's most likely in hell though. Nasty bird.
