You're worse than I am!
(or perhaps not accustomed to the form of internet debate/argument in which statements need definition/citation/obvious connection)

First you sleigh in a slough of suggested syllogisms, then imply their implications are impervious to imperfection while asking for appropriate attention to acute analysis.

There is something the matter with words of a hatter, a hatter that states alleged debates but ends up defending their own gray matter.

What is being asked of you is none to few of things that must be said:
To debate your thought,
there must not be forgot,
the fact that we're not in your head.

Back to the side topics of the topic:
Define:
a1*enlightenment
a2*enlightened
a3*pointless endeavors

Discuss:
b1*why homelessness is allegedly caused by the mentality of the homeless as their own problem.
b2*what endeavors are pointless
b3*is arecibo pointless or not and why

My thoughts:
a1*enlightenment/enlightened
-unimportant to a society as a whole because there will ultimately always be a difference in opinion of enlightenment, there for it is an endeavor of the individual.

a2*enlightened
-an individual who has gained some personal understanding/insight/wisdom/knowledge to some thing they were focusing to understand or a spiritual achievement of satisfaction or comfort with their interpretation of their soul/spirit.

a3*pointless endeavors
-these are in the eye of the beholder.  What you may find pointless, others may not.

b1*I do not have evidence to think homelessness is just so clear as an image of homeless mentality.  I have known a bunch of homeless people over the years and they are each homeless for different reasons.  I have yet to meet a homeless person who was homeless because or having an "unmotivated" mentality, but I have met several who chose to be homeless for economic or social or anti-societal reasons, were literally mentally handicapped and could not hold down jobs but who had also been turned away by the health care system, who preferred to sleep outside in public places, those who had severe drug addictions and could not keep their lives together because of drug use, traveling businesspeople who never sleep at "home" anyways, and also, those who simply did not understand the system or how to function within it so they chose to live anywhere (homeless).  There is a wide variety of homeless.  This brings me to a reflection based on the standing definition used by "imphasing" for "enlightenment" in which I see that to pursue the end of homelessness would be an enlightened thing to do (again, based soley on the definition given by "imphasing".)

b2*What may have a point to me might be pointless to you.  Thus, pointlessness is in the eye of the beholder and thus needs elaboration by said eye.

b3*I do not think arecibo appears pointless; it was made with some very clear intents.  The question becomes: Have the intents of arecibo been satisfied and do they require arecibo to continue filling those needs or continue attempting to fill those needs?

Back to my opinion on the subject:
I can't eat it or grow food with it, so I don't care too much if it stays or goes.  The memory of it seems good enough for me, for now

Sometime when I get the time to write a complete, through out reply, I'll do that. For now, let me just say that advancing our understanding of the universe is something *I* believe is very important, and funding for such a project should take priority over more domestic matters which would not be benefited by a pile of money.

Now, I gotta get back to coding. This stuff doesn't write itself, you know.

Hey Lidge!!!

just kill me now, i know when i have been soundly thrashed... lol :jofl: lol (edit: meaning i am enjoying the debate !!!and i have no further response. lol)

I bow to redneck and his "logic" as mine is considerably flawed with emotional influences.(edit: he is an excellent debater!!!)

(edit: sorry, should have been a seperate paragraph, this is just a story i wanted to share about what we do.)

When i made the comment about using the money for other purposes, i didn't think there were that many people that had axes to grind. I do find it hard to understand how millions and billions can be spent on other things ( valued or not ), when on a daily basis i look into the eyes of a child, young adult, or elderly and all i see is the empty stares of human beings that deserve better than they have. Abandoned through consequences and choices made by others, these unfortunate souls are still looking to the future, looking desperately for a miracle that otherwise wouldn't come if not for the efforts like those with whom i am associated.

last year we fed over 1000 families, sometimes on a daily basis

last year we found housing for almost a hundred families

last year we recycled and resupplied more than 25 families that lost their homes and everything they owned due to some disaster (natural or otherwise).

One family we helped at Christmas had two children.  the little boy (about 6 years old) looked at me strangely when i was helping to deliver the household goods, toys, bicycles and computers. I was wearing a red NASCAR Officials Jacket ( because i am a retired Winston Cup Technical Inspector).  My hair was a little long, and white and i was actually a little heavier than i am now.  The little boy asked me if  I was Santa Claus...  (yeah i was that big and round).  I told him no, i was not Santa , but I was one of Santa's Helpers.  I asked him why he thought I was Santa.  He then proceeded to tell me of the terrible fire that took his home, and all his toys and clothes.  He told me that I looked like Santa.  He then told me that I had to be Santa because i brought him MORE and BETTER stuff than what he had before it "all got burned up".  This family went from having almost nothing, losing it in a fire, to having a nicer home, better food, clothing and household goods. This led to a better job, a better car, a better way of life and it would not have been possible had it not been for a few dedicated, loving individuals who decided to look beyond the societal thinkiing that there will always be less fortunate, we looked beyond the excuses others make for not helping those less fortunate because we believe they deserve better, if for no other reason than they are Human.

We believe they are worth saving...

just thought you should know what my thinking was and if i offended anyone in the beginning,

get over it.

Hellooo Arf!!!

I don't know if any of that was directed at me or not... but just in case.... I cite my other post where I said the stuff about homeless not being always about mentality, but often about malarkeyty psychological circumstance or choices to be homeless on purpose.

Anyway, I too fed hungry people in my past and do when I am not feeling introverted and have extra debt to accrue at a local eatery; hungry people always love a free slice of pizza or some fries.

:(  i was speaking generally "if" anyone was offended,( they can get over it.)  I like your arguments, i especially like how you and redneck cut through the rhetoric...  lol  i am in awe of the analytical abilities others have, as i said, my logic is hopelessly flawed with emotional influences .  so i wear my heart on my sleeve and because of that i don't make very sound / logical decisions sometimes.

all my respect and admiration to you...

Aye, I didn't think you were, but the post started off with my name and that kind of put me into mild defense mode.

Also, I live where it says I do, so I have to cut through the clouds of confusing ideas and people any time I leave my house.  Of course that may be the effects of all the anti-depressants and cannabis all these people keep ingesting that I am cutting through..!

I too wear my heart on my sleeve... but it usually takes a little bit for my brain to sort it all out before I look like I am reacting... except of course that my face always makes me look upset when I am thinking.. apparently!  hah!

Peace and Thanks!

Having emotional influences does not necessarily flaw logic.  What is logic really?  If we accept definition 2.b of the American Heritage dictionary, logic is a system of reasoning.  By using emotions with logic, you are using your own system of reasoning.

Let's say Billy is confronted with a situation where he must either save his dog or himself.  He uses his logic, his system of reasoning, to determine how to solve this situation.  He can either use emotions or not use them, and the logic will not be flawed either way.

In fact, I use emotions to argue both sides of every argument.  I just act like I believe a certain argument and get into character and debate.
