Internet... Slow?
« on: May 14, 2003 05:07 pm CDT »
is it just me, or is the internet just really, really slow? i have dsl at work and it takes 20-30 seconds to load a page that normally took 1.5 seconds. anyway, just wanted to see if anyone else was having the same problem with malarkeyty speeds.

If you experience every site being slow, it's on your ISP's or your comp's end.

As a point of history:  Our last server clear was on September 27, 2004.  That is 4963 days ago (13.6 years) as of today.

If you're visiting after a long hiatus and have forgotten your password, try emailing me via the support form at http://www.pcrpg.org.

If your character is from after the 2004 clear but appears to have been deleted or reset, chances are it was caught in one of the inactive account purges over the years.  Backups were made before such events, so try the support form.

You should actually just run a tracert on the IP of the host's page you are on.  Run it continually and find which one has a high ping.  This is most likely your weakest link.  The internet is full of them.

Gotta love SBC with their 6Mbps tier for 45$
(Yes, on their site it only shows 3Mbps, but it is actually 6Mbps, I would know :)).

I notice at some points my download speed will drop down to 600-700k.  I just call up my ISP and complain, and they test the line and see if they can clean it remotely.  Normally my speed will return to normal after a couple days.

My CO has never been slow on me.  The only times I do have slower than my max capped speed is if it's the host's fault and I get really pissed and I cancel if it's slower than 100KB/sec.  The last time I had a problem with it was when the whole DSL sector went down about a 2 years ago.  I have no complaints with SBC Global, except maybe the upload speed cap.
