Gotta love SBC with their 6Mbps tier for 45$
(Yes, on their site it only shows 3Mbps, but it is actually 6Mbps, I would know :)).

I find that quite unlikely that anyone, no matter how advanced the DSL connection is, downloads at 8mb/s.

Also, ozzy, if you downloaded at 2mbyte/s, chances are the download was closed, and you attempted to re-download again.  When you did, it resumed right from where you left off.  I have an old pic (which I can no longer access) that shows me downloading a file at 4 mbyte/s.

I used to do that when ever I was bored.  Just stopping a download and redownloading to see how high the speed got.

I don't mean to get technical but you would need a line speed of at least 16Mbps to download at 2MB/sec theoretically.  I wish people would state what they were on when they download stuff before they brag about it.

Didn't know Particle had a 65Mbps connection.

I was on my tweaked cable..

I know logic defies it, but I actually downloaded at that speed.

I went to take a ss, and I found my computer suddenly as slow as dirt . I checked the dl , and the speed was over 1 mb per second. It kept going up at great speed.

It eventually went up to 2 mb per second. I wanted to take a ss of the 2 mb per second but my computer was so overloaded that I couldn't do malarkey untill the dl was complete.. THen I lost the SS..

I know your CPU speed has almost nothing to do with download speed, but it seemed very wierd to me to download a 250 mb file in less than 40 seconds.

Yeah I know what you mean, I had a friend that said he tweaked his RR cable and downloaded at speeds that defies that law.  The bottleneck is most likely the Hard drive and the CPU ultization it uses.  There are some good reviews on hard drives that show some recent ones use about 13.5% at least on the CPU ultization test.

You should actually just run a tracert on the IP of the host's page you are on.  Run it continually and find which one has a high ping.  This is most likely your weakest link.  The internet is full of them.

Weakest link = getting routed through 2 AOL routers...which were laggy as hell. 1300 ping each

tweaked rr as in following the cable wire to the local hub and severing all your neighbors' cables? ^_^, then it'd be a T1 connection for yourself

Ok yeah, I cut all the lines for everyone else on this sector, giving me OC3 bandwidth.

So when the government finds you, you know you can get up to 10 years in jail time for that, right?

*edit*
You think they might have a way I can beat the system with DSL?
