Near Death Experience..
« on: May 28, 2003 01:06 pm CDT »
Yea, heres mine (and it happened 2 days ago)

I was with a few friends..  one other girl and 3 guys, and we were all bored..  one of the guys (naturally) says hey lets go to my grandmas house and go hunting!  We were all bored, and we are quite a random bunch soo..  we go.  His grandpa has a 12 guage, a 4-10, and a 22 rifle (one for each of the guys, since im not gunna shoot anything) so we go there and get them, and then start walking around in the woods looking for stuff to shoot.  We didn't see anything.. just a couple crows and a squirrel, so we go back to his grandpas for a drink.  We get a couple cokes, and he said we should walk along the railroad track because there are groundhogs all over there..  so off we go.

Now, we are walking along the railroad tracks, and someone had a quarter and a nickle so they put them down on the track just in case a train comes and it will smash it.  We walk about a mile down the track away from the quarter and nickle, and come to a bridge that goes over a ravine with a little river/creek thing (its about 150 feet high).  It has no rails on the side, so its just a flat bridge that goes to the other side.  It's a pretty long bridge, I might add..   So, the 3 guys start walking..  the girls are like hey hold on..  thats kinda high... and what if a train comes..  but finally I give in and go, but the rest of the girls wait there.

There were 2 guys in front of me, and one behind me..  were are all spread out.. like 4 feet in between each of us. We are directly in the middle of the bridge.. All of the sudden we hear this light rumble..  we can't see far beyond the bridge on either side because there is a turn, and then all of the sudden this train comes barreling around the corner..  I didn't even see it, someone else just said "oh malarkey its a train" and they started running.

We could see like a mile away at the turn, and the train hadn't come around yet, so im running but not too fast..  then someone says OH malarkey ITS RIGHT THERE and i just started HAULING! Now you think it would be easy, but when the track is laid down on wooden planks that have a foot of room in between each and you can see through them 150 feet down to the ground.. its damn scary.

We couldn't get to the side because there was no room, so we had to reach the end to be safe.. The 2 guys in front got to the other side and turned around and when I saw their faces I was so scared, they were freaking out..  The guy behind me was even with me and we got to the edge and both jumped off to the side as soon as we got to the edge of the bridge and RIGHT when we did.. the train flew by!  We were literally 4 feet away from a train going 60 MPH when we jumped off..

I sat down and cried for like 30 minutes..  all I could think about was "I could have died..  right there..  it would have been the end.."  Iv'e never been so freaked out in my life.  So after all that, we got up and WALKED BACK ACROSS THE BRIDGE (yea.. wtf..) because the ravine was too rocky..  it took them like 10 mins to convince me to walk back across.  We all got a railroad spike thing from there and are gunna keep them forever..  I still get freaked out when I picture that train right behind me on the bridge..  You think its not scary when you see it in the movies, but when its YOUR life and you can hear the train and are running..

Feel free to post a near death experience if youv'e ever had one..

I almost choked on a cheesestick.

Oh, I've been in like 3 low-speed crashes, if those count.

Gotta love SBC with their 6Mbps tier for 45$
(Yes, on their site it only shows 3Mbps, but it is actually 6Mbps, I would know :)).

I might have thought it was fun, that would be a real adrenline rush for me. I think I'm going to do that when I get back to Ohio. That would be a pretty neat experience. I'm fast anyway so I guess I would have to let the train get close to me before I run.

My granddad was working on a cabinet in his shop, sawing planks and stuff, or whatever.  I come in and trip on a cord, and stop myself like 4 inches from the saw.

Nuro, you THINK you can but it's really dangerous...  an object that big might look like it's going slow, but it's actually going extremely fast..  I found out the hard way..  I saw it come around the bend, and then I saw it 5 feet away from me in like 8 seconds..

I know all about it, but that's the kind of rush I would like but cause I'm kind of adrenline junkie but I must admit yes I might have a second thought in my mind if I got in that situation but I truely think I would have went for it.
