If he's anything like me he has components die quite often.  I have to buy hard drives almost every year.

As a point of history:  Our last server clear was on September 27, 2004.  That is 4963 days ago (13.6 years) as of today.

If you're visiting after a long hiatus and have forgotten your password, try emailing me via the support form at http://www.pcrpg.org.

If your character is from after the 2004 clear but appears to have been deleted or reset, chances are it was caught in one of the inactive account purges over the years.  Backups were made before such events, so try the support form.

The only way I can see one ruining their harddrive that quickly is by moving it from standing upright to facing flat often. That gets the platters off balance.

Hardware dies faster if you overlock it.

Hehe RAIDing the HD's and o/c the rpm to 15000 and overclocking the IDE controller don't help either  :D

Gotta love SBC with their 6Mbps tier for 45$
(Yes, on their site it only shows 3Mbps, but it is actually 6Mbps, I would know :)).

Here's what I've had die within the last few years:
1) 3.2GB Western Digital
2) 3.2GB Fujitsu
3) 20GB Quantum Fireball lct10
4) 40GB IBM Deathstar 60GXP
5) 40GB IBM Deathstar 60GXP

I sold one replacement 40GB Deskstar and 8.4GB Maxtor DiamondMax (it was a very early one--they didn't officially call it a DiamondMax until later).

My rig still has a 40GB Seagate Barracuda IV and two 120GB Western Digital WD1200JB's in it--some of the fastest and most reliable drives made.

I think there were a couple other drives in there but I can't remember.

I use my computer all the time and it's way older than your guys stuff is but how do you kill your machines like that? I want to destroy my machine to make my Dad go bye a new one but it might not work. I'm about to overclock this processor in a minute, soon as I figure out how. Any of you got some suggestions it's one of those cartridge type processors.
