ATI all the way! And when they become top Dog, I'll find some other company.

It's just like pentium and AMD, AMD is only better because they have to be, and as soon as they get to the top(market wise), they won't be worth buying anymore.

That wouldnt always be the wisest decision in my opinion.  You wouldnt want to use that method when it comes to sound cards, would you?

Depends on what you already got in your system, though.  You wouldnt wanna buy a Geforce4 or a GeforceFX or a Radeon 9800 for a computer that is only like 500 mhz, since you wouldnt get much more performance out of it.

Click Start.  Click Run.  Type in: dxdiag and press enter.  On the first page it will tell you how fast your computer is (in Mhz) and how much memory you have.  Give me this info and I will recommend you a card.

I honestly hope no one here has anything less than 1ghz as their main PC.

As Darwin said, it depends on what card you currently have.

Alright, now here is where you get your hands wet.  If eligible, see if you can open up your computer case (bring a flashlight too if you cant see.

Try to look for this:

The white slots are PCI.  The brown slot is AGP.

Now, it seems that you would be shopping on a budget, yes?

If you have an AGP slot, definately go with an AGP card.
I recommend the BIOSTAR GF4 MX440 SE 64MB 8X DDR W/TV -- $58+shipping
http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProduct.a ... 14-141-006

Now if you dont have an AGP slot, you would have to settle for a PCI card (which is OK, I guess).
I would go for the VGA APOLLO GF4 MX440 SE DDR PCI W/TV Retail -- $60
