I'm looking to repack tribes with rpg as its base. (in essence base is a mod).
Part of the problem is that trpg uses alot of whats in base. I've done alot of recompiling of the vol files, however it still does the "my scripts.vol is broken" error (tribes starts, then quits without loading).
Does anyone have any experience with doing this? Since tribes is now freeware, I think it would be cool to be able to download a version of tribes tailored specifically to trpg. In essence treat it as if its a game, and not a mod. This would make it much much easier for people to get into tribes, since its like just another free game. Also I've learned gui editing enough so that the gui could be modded just for trpg, also the training missions could be replaced with a custom map that had a simple training course requiring someone to do x tasks, and adding x skill, let them use it, then remove that skill.
Also , if im wrong please let me know, i think it would reduce some overhead in tribes, running tribes, then loading trpg on top of it might take more resources then normal. The repack also trims out stuff like the base missions, also tryign to trim out any unessassary files (i.e. the stuff in trpg thats never used.) Alot of clientside aethetics could be added (like the tribes 2 model for heavies, so DK armors look ssssssweeet)
Also i'd liek to use the opportunity to pack in pcrpg sepcific stuff, like a tweaked dueshud for pcrpg (the current ones only cover a few things like the exp)
Part of my desire for it, is because tribes is finnally starting to show its age, the servers are dwindling, also applies to rpg. I think having a standalone rpg version will make it very easy for people to install and play rpg anytime they want without the hassle of gettign tribes, installing this and that. Plus the scripts would be built in, stuff like tauriks !myinfo script and whatnot. (btw i dont want this thread to be about people arguing what needs to be included)
